Our history

We were founded in 1948 by Italian migrants in Melbourne and have been a prominent institution in the Victorian soccer landscape for over 75 years. ​

Our history is in Melbourne’s migrant past and our establishment traced back to Agostino Francesco Galanti, a monk who served as a chaplain in the Italian army.  Captured in Libya and sent to Victoria as a prisoner of war, Agostino remained here after his release and became part of the Italian community.​

Agostino, together with Rino Fontana, a member of the earlier Savoia football team, shared a vision to create an inclusive environment that brought people together, fostered social connections and a sense of belonging. At a community meeting in 1948, Brunswick Juventus was born, named in honour of the great Turin club because of the name’s political neutrality.​

Through years of football reform, we underwent many name changes. In 2022, we returned to our original name, and have continued to foster a sense of identity and community through football, emerging as one of the most popular and culturally diverse clubs in Victoria.
