Sunny but windy conditions at Bensons Lane last Saturday as the Nor-West Jets played host to old foes, the Macquarie University Warriors. The Warriors, formerly the Kookaburras, brought a new look strip and a stern test for the Jets as the local boys were keen to get their season back on track after successive losses to Manly and the Goannas.
RESERVES MATCH REPORT v MACQUARIE UNI WARRIORS
The Reserve Grade team took to the field with confidence, but that was soon diminished early in the first term as the Warriors slammed on five goals and kept Nor-West goalless. Strong defensive work from Martin Duncan, Scott Scallan Allan and Brad Kimber kept the score at an attainable level at quarter time, with the Jets kicking with the wind in the second.
The second quarter was a much more even affair, with 2 goals apiece, Nick Nickstar Bennett, Adam Elmo Newton and Coach Greg Jenko Jenkins feeding the running brigade of Dave Beacroft, Brett Bertie Carroll and Joe Munnas Munro for many forward attacks. Rod Rocket Bayne and Chris Collo Collins kept the pressure on the Mac Uni backline, with the same margin at half time keeping the home team in the game.
The second half was all Mac Uni, as they piled on a further 5 goals with the use of the breeze, and 3 more in the last, and keeping Nor-West to only 2 goals for the half, but the Jets never threw in the towel, and made the Warriors earn their possessions.

SENIORS MATCH REPORT v MACQUARIE UNI WARRIORS
Seniors were keen for a good start, after too many sluggish openings this year, and the boys answered Coach Potts’ call, with a fierce attack on the ball stunning the Warriors. The Jets kicked the first two with the help of the breeze, before Mac Uni answered with a couple of their own, and it was fast and furious footy, with Peter Browny Brown controlling the ruck, giving good service to on-ballers Stephen Stav Davidson, Casey Boft Wenselowski and the evergreen Nick General Milkins, who keeps getting sharper and fitter as the years go by. An unfortunate knee injury ended key forward Stewart Pottsy Potts’ day, but the Jets held an 11 point lead at the first break, and knew they had a lot of work to do, as Mac Uni now had use of the strong breeze.
The hoe side didn’t give in on their hunger for the ball, and continued to contest the hard ball, Paul Wanga Sherwood and Aaron Whilesy Whiles were devastating on their flanks, Matt Oyster Brophy, Daniel Guffo Guthridge and Jack Sparrow Pascoe were playing inspired football in the backline, and Andrew Shagga Travers, Jon Schoey Schoenmaker and Don Duck Waterston were presenting strong options in the forward line. The Jets held the Warriors to 5 goals and added 2 of their own into the breeze, and went to the break down by 12 points.
The second half was an even contest, but the fitness of Mac Uni shone through, as they added 4 goals in as many minutes, and held the Jets to only one. A facial injury to full back Brophy caused a defensive re-shuffle, with Peter Pekay Kyle taking the job on the Warriors big full forward. Pascoe was proving a godsend to the Jets back six, repelling many Mac Uni attacks, and the Jets were down by 30 points at three quarter time, and kicking into what was now a much stronger wind for the last.
The Warriors added four more to the home side’s two, both kicked at long range by Brown, which proved a crowd pleaser to the Jets faithful. Mac Uni finished the better, running out 46 points winners,
