RESERVES MATCH REPORT v HOLROYD-PARRAMATTA GOANNAS
The Jets travelled to Gipps Road Oval at Greystanes to take on last year’s Semi Finalist Holroyd-Parramatta on Saturday keen for a win, after last week’s crushing defeat at the hands of Manly. The Reserve Grade took to the field confident of taking the points, and consolidating their position in the Top 4. The twos had some handy players returning to the fold, Peter Browny Brown, Nick Nickstar Bennett, Adam Elmo Newton and Coach Greg Jenko Jenkins adding some much needed sting and stability to the team.
The scores in the first two quarters were even, going goal for goal at times, with the Jets taking it up to their more experienced rivals, Matt Mavros Davidson and Jesse Bruza Bray were providing good options up forward, and the run of first year player David Beacroft, a former top level distance runner, Peter Pirate Richardson and Mick Yeenis Yee were able to create opportunities through the midfield. The Goannas held an 8 point lead at the long break.
The Jets came out inspired for the second half, adding 5 goals 5 behinds and solid defence from debutant Martin Duncan, who took the game up to his opponent, Norm Guns Hanley and Chris Collo Collins kept the home side to only 2 goals 7 behinds. This Reserve Grade are improving with every game, and are putting tremendous pressure on the Senior players to retain their positions.

SENIORS MATCH REPORT v HOLROYD-PARRAMATTA GOANNAS
The Senior team took to the field with high hopes against the Goannas, but a late withdrawal from forward Luke Hilton didn’t help at the start. The Jets kicked the first goal of the game, but this only served to wake up the home team, who fired the ball forward to great effect, kicking 4 first quarter goals. Solid defence from Matt Oyster Brophy, Scott Scallan Allan and Jamie Rowie Rowe prevented the score blowing out too much, with same great work to stop many goals, the Goannas kicked 7 behinds in the opening term.
The second quarter was much of the same, but the Jets did use the footy better as the game went on, adding 3 goals to Parramatta’s 4, Casey Boft Wenselowski, Stephen Stav Davidson and Paul Wanga Sherwood racked up plenty of possessions, providing scoring opportunities for Andrew Shagga Travers up forward. The loss of ruckman Paul Boggsy Sutcliffe added further pressure to the Jets big men, with 4 different players rotating through the position to cover the loss. Half time Goannas led 8.9.55 to 4.4.28.
The slow start by Nor-West proved costly, with the Jets matching the Goannas in the last quarter in every position, with some devastating attack on the football.
This was highlighted best by Mitch Pies Billingham, who was playing some inspired footy. Mitch showed tremendous courage to back into a pack against the flight of the ball, right in front of the fast leading Parramatta full forward Ricky McKerrow. Both players clashed heavily in what some have described as the heaviest contact in First Division in many years. McKerrow was knocked unconscious in the collision, and an ambulance was called immediately, stopping play for almost half an hour. Further news from Parramatta reveals that after tests, McKerrow was released from hospital late Saturday night and the Jets wish him all the best in his recovery.
The Jets went goal for goal in the last quarter, but the forward surge proved too late, both teams kicking 5 goals 5 behinds, but the result was settled by the Goannas better first three quarters, Once the team learns to switch on and play four solid quarters, better results will come their way.
