RESERVES MATCH REPORT v MANLY-WARRINGAH WOLVES
Round 4 and the Jets travelled across the city to the undulating hills on Weldon Oval in Harbord, an unhappy hunting ground for most teams in the league. The Jets twos had won their last two games, and despite having plenty of changes from the Camden game, still had a lot of confidence for a win. Manly, however had other ideas, and set the pace early, with a 7 goal to one first term, punishing Nor-West for their costly turnovers and disposal. New player Adam Foxy Fox was doing his best on the ball and was well supported by Dom Domma Shipley and Michael Yeenis Yee.
The Jets held the Wolves to only 5 goals and added two more themselves in the second term, with Stewart Pottsy Potts, Matt Mavros Davidson and the returning big man Andrew Hahny Hahn providing strong targets up front, but with a nasty head injury to back flanker Aaron Purton and a few players being underdone from lack of training, it was going to be a tough ask to bring the half time margin of 52 points.
The second half was all Manly, who piled on another ten goals and kept the Jets goalless with an uncompromising defensive display, but the Jets still gave their all, and made the Wolves earn their goals until the final siren.
Manly 22.17.149 def Nor-West 3.2.20
Goals: S.Potts, M.Davidson, A.Hahn
Best: C.Collins, J.Bray, S.Tanuku, D.Goland, R.Bayne, A.Hahn
SENIORS MATCH REPORT v MANLY-WARRINGAH WOLVES
Seniors took to the field missing key players Matt Velvet Lloyd and Andrew Shagga Travers, but were still willing to take the fight up to last years Premiers, who have lost a few of their guns from 2007. But it was to be the day the Wolves hit their straps after losing their first two games of the year, with a blistering first quarter, playing accountable running footy, piling on 8 goals to the Jets one, kicked by Luke Paris Hilton, but Manly were flooding the Nor-West forward line to good effect. Key midfielder Gerard Ged Smits was the victim of a savage hit in the opening minute, and took no further part in the game. Returning to the team was RAAF representative, showing the poise and skill that gained him selection in the Air Force squad, delivering the ball to the running pair of Stephen Stav Davidson and Don Duck Waterston.
The second term saw the Jets take the game up to Manly, with some close marking and better disposal. Matt Oyster Brophy showed plenty of heart at full-back, touching up his opponent and repelling many attacking raids, with great support from Jon Schoey Schoenmaker, Aaron Whilesy Whiles, Adam Chock Micallef in his season debut, and captain Jack Sparrow Pascoe, who displayed great leadership, taking several strong pack marks, and playing many positions. The Jets kept the Wolves to only four goals and added two themselves, the half-time margin of 55 points almost mirroring the Reserve Grade game.
Manly proved unstoppable in the second half, with nine goals in the third, and twelve in the last to run away with the win, but the Jets kept at the defending Premiers, showing glimpses of brilliance against a very slick unit. Schoenmaker and Peter Pekay Kyle combined well up forward kicking two each, and the midfield won a good share of the ruck, but it was too little too late,
Manly 33.14.212 def Nor-West 7.8.50
Goals: J.Schoenmaker 2, P.Kyle 2, L.Hilton, S.Davidson and A.Micallef
Best: P.Sutcliffe, D.Waterston, C.Wenselowski, S.Davidson, J.Pascoe, A.Whiles.
The Jets face Holroyd-Parramatta next week at Gipps Road, and will welcome back many players who missed the Manly fixture, and will be confident of victory in both grades.
