Windy conditions at Bensons Lane made for some tough footy on Saturday as the Jets
hosted the local derby against Penrith, now in its 25th year.
RESERVES MATCH REPORT v PENRITH RAMS
The Reserve Grade took to Bensons Lane No 3 with the Hawkesbury Doctor swinging directly across the field, making delivery to the forwards and goal kicking difficult for both teams. The Rams had first use of the breeze but the Jets had other ideas, with superior skills and relentless attack on the football keeping the Rams goal-less in the first quarter while adding 3 goals 4 behinds themselves. An injury to first gamer Scott Frenken only made the Jets more determined to carry on their good start.
The second quarter saw an even performance from both teams, with solid defensive work from Peter Pekay Kyle, Nick Nickstar Bennett and Norm Guns Hanley setting up plenty of run through the midfield of Adam Elmo Newton, Sam Sammy Tanuku and former Penrith player Daniel Goland. Eventually the Jets kept the ball camped in their forward 50, with Chris Disco Kyle, Dom Domma Shipley and Greg Stretch Allen adding to the scoreboard, the Jets up by 33 points at half time.
The second half was dominant from the home team, Brett Bertie Carroll was in fine form, making the wing his own with numerous strong marks and pinpoint delivery to the hungry forwards. 18 year old Gerard Ranga Delaney, who played Under 18s at partner club East Coast Eagles last year, played his best game of open age football, using his speed and endurance to good effect, running rings around the tiring Rams, and kicking a superb goal with a 100 metre run from the half back line. Rod Rocket Bayne and Mick Yeenis Yee directed traffic across half forward, while Shipley and Allen with four goals each, and Kyle at his elusive best, was unstoppable, the Rams using 7 different opponents on him, kicking 6 goals. The Jets piled on 13 second half goals to completely demolish Penrith, winning 18.12.120 to 4.7.31, a 180 point turnaround from last weeks loss to the Southern Sharks.

The win sees the Reserve Grade sitting in 4th position on the ladder, the first time in history the Reserves have sat in the top 4.
SENIORS MATCH REPORT v PENRITH RAMS
First Grade won the toss and kicked with the wind, scoring the first two goals and firing up Penrith, who added four in a row to take a 13 point lead to quarter time. Full back Matt Velvet Lloyd was controlling the backline, cleaning up several of the Rams errors, setting up Jake Plums Berry, Gerard Smitsy Smits and last years Senior Runner-up Best and Fairest Dale Boots Wellington with plenty of forward opportunities.
The wind intensified and so did the footy, as first gamer David Johnson, Mitch Pies Billingham and Don Duck Waterston gathered plenty of possession, and Matt Oyster Brophy playing his heart out in the ruck. Wellington went down in the second quarter with a quadricep injury, and with James Jimmeh Cadet succumbing to a previous knee injury, the Jets were 2 men short for the rest of the game, and the Rams took full advantage, piling on 8 goals to the Jets 1 goal to take a commanding 55 point half time lead.
The Rams were confident after the break, taking some big risks in defence, and the Jets capitalised, with Aaron Bayney Bayne playing some inspired football and completely dominating the play, the home team adding 6 goals and keeping Penrith at bay, the Rams couldn't find a goal for the quarter and setting up a tense final term, the Jets closing the gap to just 3 goals.
Unfortunately for the Jets, the wind turned into a gale as the siren sounded for the last quarter, and made for some costly turnovers, which the Rams capitalised on, kicking 3 more goals to the Jets 1, with some kicks on goal missing by the barest of margins. Jack Sparrow Pascoe led all day in a number of positions, dominating in the unfamiliar wing position, Nick General Milkins relished his backline role, keeping Rams big man Jason Bradley to only one goal, while Damian Harry Williams shut out the dangerous Dean Lomas with some terrific tagging.
