SENIORS MATCH REPORT vs SOUTHERN SHARKS
The Nor-West Jets opened the 2008 Sydney AFL Division 1 season with a crushing 184 point defeat at the hands of 2007 Runner-Up the Southern Sharks at Gwawley Park in Taren Point.
The Sharks, who led the 2007 Grand Final for all but the last 10 minutes of extra time, jumped the Jets with slick use of the football and hard running to open up a 49 point lead at the first change. The Jets defence, led by Jack Sparrow Pascoe and Matt Velvet Lloyd, tried their hardest on the Sharks key position forwards, but could only do so much, as the Sharks midfielders gave perfect delivery all day.
It was much the same in the second quarter, despite strong marking and a 50 metre goal from ruckman Andrew Travers, as the Sharks played rebound football to kick a further 6 goals. The Jets midfield of Casey Boft Wenselowski , Nick General Milkins and first game player Luke Paris Hilton, battled it out with all they had, but almost every forward attack was met with an impregnable half-back line from the home team.
The second half saw the Sharks hit another gear, piling on 8 goals in the 3rd and 9 in the 4th quarter to completely shut out the never-say-die Jets, who didn't give up until the final siren, a fact that was applauded by the Sharks Senior coaching staff at the after game awards.
Special mentions going to Damian Harry Williams, playing his first game in Jets colours since 2005, Joe Munnas Munro in his Jets debut, and Brett Bertie Carroll, all three backing up from Reserve Grade.
Coach Richard Potts said despite the margin, there was plenty to take from the match, with the endeavour shown by the players indicating that better results are only around the corner, with more than 15 players still to return to the playing ranks in coming weeks.

RESERVES MATCH REPORT vs SOUTHERN SHARKS
The Reserve Grade team hit the field with 9 new faces to the Jets, 4 of whom have never played football before. The Jets started with a bang, kicking the first goal of the game, but this only served to fire up the Sharks, who kicked 5 unanswered goals after that to go to the 1st break leading by 4 goals. The Jets midfield of Scott Scallan Allan, Don Duck Waterston and Stephen Stav Davidson gave good delivery to forwards Dominic Domma Shipley with 2 goals, and Chris Collo Collins who won his fair share of the ball in the unfamiliar postion of Centre Half Forward.
The Jets lacked the fitness needed to run with the youthful Sharks in the remaining quarters but still displayed a lot of heart, matching the Sharks in the 3rd quarter with 2 goals 2 behinds to 3 goals 5 behinds to the home team, but the result was in the bag by then, the Sharks winning by 90 points.
