Reserve Grade Co-Captain Chris "Junna" Collins came agonisingly close to a shock win in the McFarlane Medal, awarded to the Best & Fairest player in 1st Division Reserve Grade, at the Phelan/Snow Medal awards held at WatervieW Covention Centre in Hombush.
In a shortened vote count, Junna finished on 9 votes, 2 coming equal 3rd behind three players from the all-conquering Premiers UTS, with Phil Taylor winning on 11 votes, followed by his team-mates John Colbert (10) and Matt Jenkins (9). In an astounding performance by our magoos, Peter Brown finished 4th on 8 votes, former Western Jet U/18 Premiership winner & now Holroyd-Parramatta player Jason Wilson polled 7, along with Leading games player for Nor-West, Don Waterston on 7 as well, giving us 3 of the top 10 votegetters in the division.
In all, 16 Jets polled votes in McFarlane Medal voting.
It was a terrific effort by Collins, which went with his Hibbins Medal win for B & F for the Reserves. Well done Junna!
In Seniors, the Jets weren't so lucky, with only 5 players polling, Nick Milkins being the top poller with 5, a fair way behind eventual winner Andrew Davis of UTS on 20 votes.
A terrific effort by the club, and one that we will most certainly build on when we strive for finals in Division 3 & 4 in 2009.
Keep your eye on the white and the blue!
