SENIORS MATCH REPORT vs SOUTHERN POWER
After a much needed two week break, the Jets played host to the Southern Power in surprisingly good conditions, in spite of the constant light rain during the week. Naming a very strong team, with the inclusion of dual premiership player Andrew Shagga Travers, and pacy centre half forward Dale Boots Wellington, the Jets set about dismantling the Power, but some inaccurate kicking in the first half resulted in 4 goals 8 behinds. The midfield brigade, minus Gerard Smits, but covered ably by Ed Hollywood Sullivan, Aaron Snowy Clayden, in the conditions he revels in, Nick Homegrown Milkins, won the lion’s share of centre clearances and delivered with ease to dominant forward Michael Cranky Craigie, who took some strong marks overhead, on his way to a career best 8 goals. The back line was proving impenetrable, with Matt Oyster Brophy celebrating his 50th club game in style, repelling all Power forward forays, well supported by Paul Wanga Sherwood, Jack MonkeyFace Pascoe and Aaron Hank Bayne, who took the most courageous mark seen on Bensons Lane for many a year. The Jets took a 32-0 lead to the first break, but the signs were there that this would be a big final score.
The second quarter saw some scintillating end to end football by the Jets, as they piled on 9 unanswered goals to completely demoralise the visitors, with 7 straight before the first behind was registered. Once on a roll, this more focused Jets side will certainly take some stopping as the season rolls on. The Power battled on gallantly, searching for their first score of the day, but every time they were turned away, more often than not resulting in a goal for the home team. A 15 goal lead at the long break favoured the home side, however, the Jets have been known to take their foot off the accelerator in the all-important third term.
In a display that suggests the Jets have arrested their ‘premiership quarter blues’, the hosts slammed on a further 7 goals 3 behinds to show they mean business. The Power entered their forward 50 late in the term, and it looked as though the shut-out for the Jets was not to be, but a desperate effort by debutante Tony I’m not really Daniel Merrett Joyce to chase the ball to the line and soccer back into play, saw the Jets go from end to end untouched and slot home a pearler of a goal. The Jets tried a few different things in the last and only added 3 more, with ex-Power player Cheyne Ox Anderson dodging and weaving his team mates to pick up plenty of touches, as the smaller Jets turned it on at ground level. Stephen China Chase will be sent to the goal square at training this week after completely duffing a gift of a goal, and copped a razzing from the boys up in 'Timmo’s Corner'. Also worthy of a mention was the timeless display of club legend Rod Rocket Bayne, selected in the seniors after many great performances in the twos. Rocket showed his opponent, half his age, how footy should be played with an uncompromising attack of the ball, winning many 50-50 contests to favour the Jets. The call from the bench of "Grit ya teef if ya got em" was never more relevant for this SFOTY front runner.

RESERVES MATCH REPORT vs UNSW/ES BULLDOGS
The Jets entered the second half of the season with a ‘must win’ game against third placed Uni of NSW. Although we had a convincing win against them in round 1 we were wary of the students as they had beaten first placed Sydney Uni last week. Coming off our best performance for the season against ‘cellar dwellers’ Camden the Jets were confident they could match the students despite several changes.
The Jets dominated from the first bounce with Adam Elmo Newton, Chris Graffy Graf and Don Duck Waterston dictating the play in the centre of the ground. They stuck solidly to the game plan using the open spaces with Chris Mattingley ‘on fire’ on the wing providing plenty of ball to dominant half forwards Mick Lewie Lewis and Matt Mavros Davidson. The Jets were not challenged in the first term kicking 5 goals to one. The second term continued at the same pace as the first with only inaccurate kicking saving the students from a cricket score margin at the long break.
In past weeks we have not been convincing in the third quarter. Coach Hibbins challenged the team to give their best this week and they certainly delivered kicking 6 goals 6 to 2 goals 1. The domination continued into the final quarter with the Jets storming home with another 6 goal effort. The backline was impenetrable all day with Dean SnugglePuss Thorpe, Scott Scallan Allan and Matthew Loz Laurence acting like road blocks and continually turning defence into attack.
After 3 losses and a draw before the long weekend the Jets needed to get their season back on track. This they did with style smashing bottom placed Camden but more importantly thrashing UNSW/ES. We now enter the business part of the season where we can ill afford to drop any games. Next week we travel to Charles McLaughlin Oval to meet Holroyd-Parramatta in another must win outing.
