SENIORS MATCH REPORT vs PENNANT HILLS DEMONS
The Jets travelled up Annangrove Road on Saturday to Ern Holmes to take on Pennant Hills, for the first time since the Second Division days of 2006. With the Magoos at Manly, depth was always going to be questioned, and things were made more difficult with the withdrawal of Coach Kyle, ruck Dale Boots Wellington and half forward Stephen Stav Davidson. Adam Elmo Newton & Don Duck Waterston were called up from ressies on Friday, while the ruck was ably covered by new recruit Paul Spider Webster.
The first quarter started in incredible fashion, with the Jets using the blustery conditions best, jumping out of the blocks with a 6 to nil first term, former Demons Aaron Snowy Clayden & Gerard Ged Smits tearing up the track with ease, well supported by captain Casey BOFT Wenselowski, Paul Wanga Sherwood and Aaron Hank Bayne on the half back line, with Jack Sparrow Pascoe easily filling the centre half back role left by ADF All-Star Jake Plums Berry, who has been deployed overseas and will play no further part in 2009.
The home team were kicking with the wind in the 2nd, but couldn’t penetrate the Jets miserly defence, who rebounded well on the narrow ground, setting up forwards Michael Cranky Craigie and Sam Mako Makins, with great crumbing support from Chris Disco Kyle, Owen Dildo Butcher and James Jimmeh Cadet, who will look down one day and Nick See the left foot he could’ve used! Milkins playing in the centre like a man possessed, with Penno’s hard men trying to iron him out to no avail, as he picked up several touches with aplomb. Penno added two and the Jets one to go to the long break with a comfortable 33 point lead.
The third was a true arm wrestle, the Demons approach to the pill was savage, but this Nor-West team is made of stern stuff, everything they threw at the blue and white we replied with interest, a huge tackle by Steve Psycho Steaszek on one of their key players going unrewarded, but the fella’s grandkids will come out bruised!! Neither side bothered the scorers in the third, and no wind advantage either, so it was going to be an interesting last term.
The Jets were given a challenge from the coaching staff to lift in the last, and lift they did, despite numerous injuries to players, Craigie coming off with a damaged pointing finger, but the worst was reserved for the Skipper, who had his pinky badly displaced in a routine marking contest, and was sent by meat wagon to one of Sydney’s more expensive hospitals, which will require a meat tray raffle every day for the next 4 years to cover the bill. We wish him well in his recovery, and our thoughts are with his girlfriend Kate….patience my dear!
The Jets kicked four straight to nil to record a strong 58 point victory against a tough opponent.

RESERVES MATCH REPORT vs MANLY-WARRINGAH WOLVES
This week the Jets travelled to Pittwater to meet the fifth placed Manly Wolves. It was obvious even before the start of the game that the windy conditions were going to make for a very interesting contest. Kicking with the aid of the strong breeze Jets hit the track full of running and soon began to dominate from the centre and jumped to an early lead. The highlight of the first quarter was a bouncing goal from about 65 metres from first gamer Ed Hollywood Sullivan. Although the jets were clear winners of the first term they did not use the wind as well as they should and only lead by 18 points at the first break. The blustery wind continued to dominate the game and the Wolves used it to their advantage kicking 6 goals four in the second term while the Jets were kept scoreless. At the half time break the table had well and truly turned and the Wolves went to the long break enjoying a 22 point lead. The second half started very evenly with the wind still blowing strongly. Desperate efforts from veteran Stephen China Chase and Brett Bertie Carroll provided plenty of ball for the Jets forwards and although they reduced the Wolves lead to 13 points it was not going to be enough to keep them out considering the Wolves had the use of the wind in the final term. The Jets fought valiantly through the last term and continued to attack the football and held the Wolves to just 2 goals 2 for the term whilst they posted 1 goal 1 against the breeze. With the Wolves eventually running out winners to the tune of 20 points. Despite this being our second loss for the season there were some noteworthy individual efforts particularly from Michael Kiwi Klaussen and big Dean Braid. Next week it is back to Bensons Lane for a must win contest against ladder leaders Sydney Uni.
