The passing of former Baulkham Hills, Pennant Hills and Balmain player Doug Scholz late on thursday night has shocked the Sydney Football Community.
Doug had only recently returned from Melbourne where he had coached the Sydney U/15 side in the V Line Championships earlier this week. It is believed that a sudden heart attack has taken him from his family and friends.
Doug had coached at the Baulkham Hills Junior & Senior Clubs and later at East Coast Eagles. He had also been the senior coach at Pennant Hills and the Balmain Football Clubs over a long career devoted to the betterment of Sydney football.
Doug had an influence on many footballers at Nor-West, Gerard Smits, Peter & Chris Kyle, Dom Shipley, Matt Brophy & David Beacroft either played footy with Doug or were taught by him, in his employment as a PDHPE Teacher at Bede Polding College at Windsor and John Paul II at Marayong. Doug's son Matt has also played three games with Nor-West Jets this year as part of the East Coast/Nor-West Alliance, with Doug coming down to Bensons Lane to watch the footy.
Doug won a Snow Medal (1st Division Seniors) for Baulkham Hills in 1990, and two Sanders Medals (Premier Division Reserves) in 1997 & 1998.
As a small tribute, the Jets will wear black armbands tomorrow in their clash with Holroyd-Parramatta at Bensons Lane.
Our deepest sympathies go to Doug's wife Jenny and his two children Matt and Katie.
Vale Doug Scholz.
