The 2020 season is finally underway in a shortened 9 round format.
With Gipps Rd unavailable in 2019, Saturday was a big celebration, of both the Goannas return home and the unveiling of the Under 19s 2019 Premiership flag.
COVID restrictions meant that spectator numbers had to be managed carefully, but thanks to the attention to detail of all of our players, volunteers and supporters in following the guidelines the Goannas were able to provide a safe environment for everyone to enjoy a day of footy.
U19s Division 2
The Young Squad had a great day at the office. Showing a lot of promise and great signs for the future of the club!!!
Goannas: 11.13 – 79
UTS: 5.5.35
Women’s Reserves (Division 2)
Despite a nervous start our girls came out strong and determined against an experienced opposition. Regardless of the lead against our girls they kept fighting and never gave up. We are excited to see this new teams growth,
Goannas: 1.2 – 8
Southern Power: 7.6 – 48
Women’s 1st Grade (Division 1)
The ladies came against a brand new team in the comp, Randwick Saints. The team picked up where they left off last season stringing together 4 solid quarters and won convincingly. Great start to the season.
Goannas: 6,7 – 43
Randwick: 2.2 – 14
Men’s Reserves (Platinum Reserves)
With a hit-out like this the Reserves are one to watch! The boys showed up with their determination and skills and took out the game running away with the win.
Goannas: 15.4 – 94
Randwick: 8.6 - 54
Men’s 1st Grade (Platinum Division)
In a tough and physical tussle the Goannas showed effort and intensity throughout. Unfortunately injuries to key players pre-match and no men on the bench in the final quarter cruelled our chances of a win, with the scoreline no reflection of how tight a contest this match was for 3 quarters. There is a lot of promise in this young side and we look forward to next week.
Goannas: 4.7 – 31
Randwick: 13.8 – 86
Thanks to all our players, coaches and volunteers who did their best to ensure everyone enjoyed a wonderful day of football at Gipps Rd Oval.
Next week:
All 5 teams are playing at Gipps Road once again. If you are planning on coming down, please ensure you sign in at the timekeepers table to ensure we have a record of your attendance.
