North
Shore has earned the right to defend their 2007 Sydney AFL Premiership
with a convincing 37 point win over Sydney University at Gore Hill on
Saturday. For North Shore it was the fitting reward for a tough season
where the side lost the first 5 games and then re-grouped to secure the
fifth spot in the final five in the very last game of the year. The
Bombers started off strongly on Saturday leading by two goals at
quarter time with Ryan Meldrum playing his best game of the year down
back and in form on-baller Lachlan Pryor being heavily tagged by the
opposition but still managing to gather plenty of possessions. It was
the second quarter however that the Bombers set up the win kicking 7
goals to Sydney Uni’s 1 goal to head into the long break with a 46
point break. North Shore maintained their lead for the rest of the day
with Ben Attwood putting his hand up for goal of the year with a
sensational goal from the boundary and in-form players Brendan
Fitzgerald and Chris Murphy once again in the best for the Bombers.
The win sets up an Elimination Final showdown against the East Coast
Eagles next Sunday at Henson Park in Marrickville where the winner will
continue and the loser will be looking towards 2009 and wonder what
might have been.

It
was the local derby for the final round of the season with the Bombers
taking on the Bears. The Bombers maintained their strong form to post
their 17th win of the season.
