The Nor-West Jets face sudden death in both grades this week, after falling to local rivals Penrith in Sydney AFL Semi Finals at Greystanes on Saturday.
In Division 3, a strong start to the game saw the Jets and Rams go goal for goal in an entertaining battle. Matt Schwager picked up where he left off the previous week by containing the dangerous Mitch Stevens at full forward, while the Johnston brothers showed their class in the middle of the ground, Ryan with his strongest performance to date while the younger Brent weathered heavy attention from his opponents. 4 points separated the 2 teams at quarter time, but it was Penrith who used the wind to advantage with a smart running game to add 5 goals and kept Nor-West to a single goal. Jake Berry stood up to the challenge at centre half forward, and put an end to key Ram midfielder Daniel Schroot’s season with a textbook tackle in the centre of the ground, and had great support from Dylan Cruz, who moved from the forward line to try and stem Penrith’s influence. The Jets had their work cut out for them in the second half, and went to the main break trailing by 27 points.
Nor-West managed the first goal of the third quarter to reduce the deficit to 20 points, but rued missed opportunities as the rain tumbled down, and managed to peg the margin at three quarter time to 22 points, but the Rams put Nor-West away with 2 goals to 1 in a brutal last quarter that will see certain Penrith players visiting League HQ during the week, Penrith 31 point winners, 13.10-88 to 8.9-57.

Earlier in Division 5, Penrith got the jump on the Jets early, with 4 quick goals before the Jets could react through Paul Webster to take an 18 point lead to the first break. Nor-West woke up and took the game up to Penrith, with Zane Priest and Liam Veigel having plenty of the football in the centre, feeding to key runners Blake Heggie and Luke Judd to carry the play forward. Harry Stever was his usual busy self, and with a late goal to Nor-West, the half time margin was an attainable 13 points.
In a classic second half, the Jets closed the margin to 5 points on more than one occasion, but every time they scored, the Rams had an almost instant answer at the other end as both teams went goal for goal, 4 goals to both sides. 11 points was the difference at the last break and so it was at the end, with standout performances from Stever and Richard Boucher not enough to get the Jets across the line, the Rams winning through to the Grand Final 12.5-77 to 10.6-66.
