A second quarter slump for the second week in a row saw the Nor-West Jets suffer consecutive defeats when they took on ladder leaders Randwick City at Malabar on Saturday. The Jets disposed of the Saints by 70 points in April, but knew they’d have a fight on their hands on the postage stamp sized ground, and with a decent breeze favouring the ocean side of the field, the Jets matched Randwick in the first term, as both teams went goal for goal. Troy Clent held his own in the ruck, battling all day in the absence of Ben Jennison, while defensive cannon ball Dave Clinch was a late withdrawal from the team. A goal on the quarter time siren saw the Saints take a 7 point lead to the first break.
And as was the case the previous week against Pennant Hills, Nor-West let the home team run rampant in the second term, as they conceded 7 straight goals to just 2 behinds, as Randwick took full control of the game. Playing his first Senior grade game since 2009, veteran Matt Brophy provided some resistance against the onslaught, while Warwick Smith, Brad Pond and Daniel Guthridge did what they could to limit the damage. A 41 point margin at half time meant some soul searching was in order for the Jets, and a different team came out after the break, with Captain Owen Butcher standing tall, while the returning Steve Quirk opened the game up with 2 goals in quick succession, to reduce the margin to 30 at the last break, but frustratingly, every Nor-West goal after half time saw a quick counter by Randwick, Nor-West outscoring the Saints in the second half, but the damage was done in the second quarter, Randwick City winning 14.7-91 to Nor-West 9.8-62.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Grade juggernaut continued on when the Jets hosted Sydney Uni at Bensons Lane. After a slow start in the first term, which saw the Jets lead 14-0, Nor-West slammed on 5 goals to nil in the second quarter and shared the scoring around, taking an 8 goal lead to half time. Small forwards Cheyne Anderson and Scott Braid were dangerous around the packs, and Mick Guthridge turned back the clock with 3 goals, but the back 6 remained composed to keep the Students to nil score at the main break. Another 7 goals in the third term put the result out of Uni’s reach with some slick ball movement, and the midfield of Zack Coombs, Musa Bakan, Liam Veigel and ruckman Sunday Achiek dominated their counterparts, and gave the Jets forwards plenty of opportunities. With a 96-1 lead at three quarter time, the Jets added 6 more goals but allowed Uni to score three themselves late in the game, Nor-West continuing their hot streak with a 124 point win, 20.14-134 to 3.2-20.
