The Nor-West Jets recorded their fourth win in a row against Macquarie University, but it came at a cost, with key forward Josh Howe's season coming to an end early in the first quarter.
The Jets had started well against the Warriors at University Oval at Marsfield, kicking 2 goals in as many minutes before disaster struck. As Howe leapt for a seemingly easy mark in front of goal, his opponent knocked him off balance mid air, resulting in an awkward fall on his ankle and being rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital where he was operated on immediately. The Jets will miss Howe's influence around the ground, and wish him a speedy recovery.
After nearly 40 minutes of delay, Nor-West upped the ante and put the Warriors to the sword with ease, as the defensive unit of Guthridge, Bayne and Clinch ran amok, keeping the home side goalless all day, and spreading the ball wide and feeding their dominant midfield. Ryan and Brent Johnston did as they pleased in the centre, while Adam Newton continued his purple patch in the ruck. Captain Owen Butcher was in everything across half forward, while Scott Braid, after some impressive performances in Reserve Grade, relished the strong delivery to the forwards on his way to 2 goals, and setting up a couple more. The Jets went to the break leading by 5 goals, and turned it on in the third quarter, adding a further 5 to put the result beyond the Warriors' reach. To Macquarie Uni's credit, they tightened up across their backline in the last, allowing Nor-West only two goals, but the damage was done and Nor-West finished up 80 points winners in a bitter sweet result, 12.11-83 to 0.3-3.

In Reserve Grade action, the Jets played host to Holroyd-Parramatta. The Goannas pressured the Jets in the first quarter, as the home side could only manage 4 goals to the first break and led by 30 points. The pressure was short lived, however, as Nor-West clicked into gear and piled on 8 goals to nil in a rampant display. Daniel Langford, returning from injury, was unstoppable in the centre, collecting possessions and bringing his midfield counterparts Josh Patterson and Zane Priest right into the action. But it was the forwards that had the spotlight, with 17 year old gun Connor Moore in sublime form, on his way to a personal best of 9 goals, while dishing off almost as many to his team mates. Cheyne Anderson played the small man cameo to perfection with 6, while Dylan Cruz chipped in with a lazy 4 for the day. An 83 point margin at half time looked like enough of a lead, but there was more to come, an incredible 12 straight goals in the third into the wind saw the Jets up by 155 at the last break, and keeping the Goannas scoreless in the process. Tall timber Bennett Idstein and Sunday Achiek controlled the middle, while down in the back line, Blake Heggie, Alex Lorenzelli and Captain Steve Chase, playing his 150th game for the Jets, gelled well to keep a clean sheet.
The last quarter was a mere formality as the Jets shared the ball around, with Chase and veteran Matt Brophy sneaking forward for a rare goal, and the Jets solidified top spot with a massive 210 point win, 32.18-210 to 0.0-0.
