The Nor-West Jets tuned up for their assault on the Division 3 finals series with a strong win over Macquarie University at Epping.
The Jets were keen to gain some momentum going into their elimination final clash with Sydney Uni this coming Sunday, and were also seeking a win for Coach Chris Kyle, who was playing his 100th game for the Jets.
Nor-West also welcomed back Captain, Pete Kyle, from a 3 month injury lay off, and started the game kicking into a stiff breeze, but managed to add the first three goals of the game with some ferocious attack on the ball. Continuing his impressive recent run, Michael Morgan was proving unstoppable on the wing, outplaying his younger counterpart with his acceleration. The Jets took a 10 point lead into the first break, and with the breeze turning into a gale, Nor-West added 4 more and kept the Warriors to a single point, as the defensive unit, led by Julian Goonan and David Clinch, tightened the screws in a ruthless display. 38 points was the difference at the long break, and the Jets were stringing together some clean passages of football.
Mac Uni’s coach let his team know that there was no tomorrow for his troops, and they came out firing in the third quarter, adding the first two goals and playing hard at the ball and player alike. The Jets responded in kind, as they camped the ball in their forward 50 for most of the quarter, and added 4 more goals to the Warriors’ 3, with rookie Luke Judd running rampant on the other wing, and big man Paul Webster starring across the centre and up forward, with strong support from Dylan Cruz around half forward.
With the home side leaving nothing in the tank in the last quarter, they added the first of the term before Nor-West opened up with 5 of their own, to take the points in an important 68 point victory, 17.15-117 to 7.7-49.
