The Nor-West Jets suffered a disappointing loss against another finals bound opponent in the Randwick City Saints at Bensons Lane on Saturday. In the previous meeting, the Jets conceded 9 first quarter goals but fought their way back to with 20 points, and were more confident this time around to topple the 2nd placed Saints on home soil.
The Jets put their more fancied opponents under pressure in the first term, as they added 2 important early goals and kept the Saints to a single behind. Daniel Guthridge led the way in defence, once again halting numerous Randwick attacks, and had strong support from Julian Goonan, David Clinch and the returning Seb Goldrick across half back. However, it was all in vain as Randwick opened up in the second term, with a 5 goal to 2 effort to take a slender 6 point lead into half time.
Steve Davidson stood up in the third quarter and along with Pete Richardson kept the Jets in the game with some powerful attack on the football, but Randwick extended their lead to 19 points at the last break, and kept Nor-West to only 2 goals after half time as they powered away and took the 4 premiership points back to the coast with a 34 point victory, 12.4-76 to 6.6-42.
