The U18’s got off to a slow start at Manly last week allowing the Wolves to skip out to a 44 point halftime lead that was always going to be too much to peg back. The only bright sign for the day was the continued improvement from first year players Musa Bakan and Seb Lorenzo who gave their all to try and help the Jets arrest the first half slide. With Brent Johnston ‘s continually running for 4 quarters the captain lead his side in the second half to outscore the Wolves for the second half in what is hopefully a learning curve for the side after a great second half.

The reserves headed up the F3 to Gosford to take on the 2nd placed Tigers. The first qtr saw the Tigers skip out to a 2 goal lead but the Jets after a good win last week believed that they were in the contest. The 2nd qtr saw the Tigers kick 4 goals to the Jets 2 with Luke Allan and Peter Richardson working hard for the Jets they were down by 4 goals at the main break. The 2nd half saw the Jets out scored 7 goals to 2 if but for some inaccurate kicking by the Jets the margin could have been closer than 53 point at the final siren. Brendan Seidel was the Jets best in his first game and also managed to be in the goal kickers in a great effort and was ably supported by Mitch Watkins who is also in his first season with the Jets

The Seniors travelled to Henson Park to take on the St George Dragons, and it was the Dragons who came away with the points and saw the Jets slip from 4th to 7th on the ladder. In a game that the Jets never really got into it was a credit to their fighting spirit that the final margin was as small as it was with many Jets playing below the standard they had set themselves in the last month. The Dragons willingness to keep running and 2nd & 3rd efforts exposed the Jets on the large expanses of Henson but hopefully it is a lesson learnt as the Jets return to Henson to take on the second placed Balmain Dockers next Sunday. If there was to be a ray of sunshine for the Jets it was the effort of Michael Gray who had his best game for the season and his attack on the footy was first class. Another highlight for the day was a would be contender for goal of the year by wingman Kane Russell who pinned to the boundary line threaded the eye of the needle to give the Jets one of few moments to celebrate.
