Saturday saw Bensons Lane a sea of blue & white for back to Bensons day with a great turn out of past players and officials to witness the Seniors & u18’s record wins while Reserve grade put up a great effort in defeat against the 2nd placed side. Thanks must go to all who set up for the day or donated raffle prizes and President Glenn Whitney said the day was a great success.
The U18’s were up against local rivals Sydney Hills Eagles and skipped out to an early lead. The young Jets playing in similar conditions to last week learnt from last week’s errors and played like a team that wanted to get back on the winners list and were led by Sunday Achiek in the ruck who gave the onballers great first use of the football. Keeping the Eagles goalless in the first half the home side lead by 29 points at the main break and in the 2nd half Captain Brent Johnston and Nick Edwards continued on with centre dominance and run over the ground that saw the boys keep the Eagles goalless for the game and run out 96 point winners.
Next week will see the u18’s round out their season with the last game at Bensons Lane against Balmain before progressing on to a finals campaign in their first season which is a great effort by all involved

The Reserves took on 2nd place UTS who in the first encounter handed out a 121 point flogging to the Jets in rnd 3 but the Jets have come a long way since then and at home were looking to secure a finals spot. The Jets came out and showed that they would not be easy beats this time round and took it up to the Bats and Pete Richardson was in amongst everything while Matt Brophy was back to his best on one of the best forwards in the competition. Brad Pond was reading the play well from across half back and Kev Conroy was also amongst it through the middle but it was not enough to get the Jets up going down 20 points but a vast improvement from the last outing vs the Bats.
The Reserves are back to finals action after finishing 5th and play in the Elimination final vs Uni of NSW on Sunday at Henson Pk.

Another windy day greeted the Seniors who took on Balmain who were fighting to get into the top 5 in their final roster game. With the more familiar Bensons Breeze blowing across the ground unlike last week it made for difficult conditions and the visiting Dockers came out and played like a team playing to survive. The Jets struggled in the first half but David Clinch & Owen Butcher were getting on top in the backline and the Jets were holding a 14 point halftime lead.
The Jets change room was deathly silent at halftime as the boys knew they were not playing to the level they had been while on their 5 game winning streak but to their credit in the 2nd half persevered and continued to fight it out knowing if they kept their work rate up they would get over the top of the Dockers. Lead by twin towers Ash Condon & Andrew Travers the Jets turned it up a notch and with a game more based on running football in the conditions the Jets won out by 41 points and a trip to the finals after finishing 3rd by percentage and a double chance.
This week the Jets play Uni of NSW in the qualifying final at Gipps rd and after defeating them both times this season are quietly confidant.
