The U18s had their final game for the roster season at Bensons Lane last week and tuned up nicely for the finals with a victory over the Balmain Dockers. Getting the jump early the Jets never looked in doubt as the backline lead the way giving plenty of drive to give them a lead of 48 points at halftime. The second half saw the jets continue to pile on the goals and the onballers continued to run hard and with the forwards creating space they kicked 12 goals for the 2nd half to run out 102 point winners. In a great result for the Jets in their first season they have made the finals and will play Macquarie Uni next weekend in the Elimination final.

The Nor-West Jets Reserves faced off against old foes, Uni NSW/Easts in the Division 4 Elimination Final on Sunday, and with the ledger in the Dogs favour 2-0 during the home and away season, with only 14 points being the difference over the two games, the Jets felt confident of advancing to week 2 of the finals. Joe Pajeska thumped a 60m goal from the centre of Henson Park to give the Jets first blood, in what was an entertaining first quarter, as neither team gave an inch, the Dogs taking a 2 point lead into the 1st break. Kicking with the wind to the scoreboard end, the Dogs took full advantage and slammed on 6 goals to 1 in the second term, and if not for the gutsy work of Adam Newton, Matt Brophy and Mitch Watkins in the back 6, the damage could’ve been much worse than the 34 point half time deficit.
The Jets rallied with another goal and held the Dogs to only 2, and play was halted as Newton was crunched high and unrewarded for his head over the ball, and was stretchered off the field for treatment. The Jets would like to thank the Dogs support staff for their assistance with Elmo, in a sign of the mutual respect both clubs have for each other. Life Member Scott Allan was outstanding at CHB in his final game in the blue and white, while the midfield of Cam Beswick and Brendan Siedel were digging deep to send the ball forward to the strong aerial work of Luke Allan, who fed the crumbers at his feet, but could only do so much against a tight Dogs defence. Staring at a 45 point margin, the coaching staff asked the Jets to show pride in the colours and themselves, but with a bench fast deteriorating due to injury and poor discipline, the task was made that much harder. Daniel Graham was in great form across half forward and through the centre in a display that turned back the clock, but the Dogs prevailed to the tune of 67 points, and the Jets can hold their heads up high, considering how close they came to relegation in 2011, and also being as low as 8th this season. A great result, and we will throw our support behind our Div 2 and Under 18 Cessnas finals campaign, hopefully bringing some success to Bensons Lane in 2012. Good luck to all remaining teams in all division finals.

The Seniors played Uni of NSW in the qualifying final on Saturday at Gipps rd & in perfect conditions saw an arm wrestle in the first quarter but with the Jets unable to 1 touch they were having to work a lot harder than their Uni counter parts and were down by just over a goal at qtr time. The 2nd qtr was where the game was lost for the Jets as they were totally out played in all aspects of the game & had no answers for what the boys from the eastern suburbs threw at them as they opened up a 6 goal lead at halftime.
The Jets had some soul searching to do at halftime and to their credit they were not about to lie down and get run over in the 2nd half. Coming out with some desperation after the break the Jets worked on chipping away at the lead and having closed the margin up at ¾ time knew if they worked hard a victory was still a chance & even after dominating the last quarter they had left to much to be done and lost out by 17 points.
This week the Seniors are up against St George in the Elimination final at Henson Pk on Sunday playing to keep their season alive for another week
