In what turned out to be a tough, hard fought encounter in the first half, the Nor-West Jets finally broke away and shook of their less fancied Campbelltown opponents to romp away to a 98 point victory in their Division 3 clash on Saturday afternoon.
Kicking against the breeze in the first quarter, the Jets dominated possession but couldn't capitalise when going forward, wasting their shots on goal. While the Blues made the most of their limited opportunities kicking the only two goals and at quarter time they held a ten point advantage.
In the second it was a similar story, Campbelltown were proving to be much harder to overcome than expected.
While the Nor-West onball brigade of Roberts, Clarke and Davidson were working very hard to bring their teammates into the game, it was the inaccuracy in front of goal which was proving to be costly. At half time the difference was only 3 points in favour of the Jets.
A scintillating second half by the Jets followed. All around the ground the work rate and intensity lifted. Going against the breeze in the third the Jets kept composed hitting targets by hand and foot. Bradley Pond was playing inspired football, gathering plenty of possessions and putting enormous pressure on the Blues forwards with hard tackling and rebounding off half back. After scoring the first two behinds of the quarter the Jets then kicked five goals unanswered, going into the last with a handy 35 point advantage.
Keeping Campbelltown scoreless, the Jets put on the afterburners in the last. David Clinch and Matthew Schwager were rock solid in defence repelling every attack and when Pond was switched to the midfield the Jets proved unstoppable. Tom Roberts and Kyle Clarke were again proving to be too good for their opponents finding plenty of space and giving quality delivery to their forwards. Young Jack Bennett's run off the wing, his skill under pressure and willingness for the contest was a stand out. With last week's breakthrough performance, Connor Moore seemed to grow in confidence as this match went on. Moore dominated the forward fifty and ended up with five goals, backing up from his best on ground performance from the previous week. Stand-in Captain Paul Webster was very good again, providing a big making option, while Co-Coach Chris Kyle was causing havoc and after some wayward kicking in the first half finally put his kicking boots on finishing with 4 goals.
With a ten goal to nil last quarter the Jets cruised home for their biggest win of the season.
Next week the Jets take on Macquarie University in a must win game on home soil at Bensons Lane.
