The Jets were brought back down to earth on Saturday afternoon when they took on Blacktown Magic at BISP No 2 Oval. The Magic were virtually unstoppable as they ran out comfortable 61 point winners.
From the outset the signs looked ominous for the Jets. Kicking with the aid of a slight swirling breeze they were not able to gain control of the ball and take their chances, while Blacktown's smart onballers ran hard and created plenty of opportunities of their own. By quarter time Blacktown held a 19 point advantage.
In the second things just got worse for the Jets. Reduced to just 3 fit men on the bench after coach Chris Kyle recieved a heavy knock just before 1/4 time which saw him unable to retake the field, Blacktown's resilient defence kept Nor-West scorless while their attacking play saw them put the game almost out of reach. By half time the margin had blown out to 46 points.
After some stern home truths by the coaches at half time and with the question of commitment being asked, the Jets came out in the third quarter with a greater intent.
Vice Captain Paul Webster was swung into his familiar roll of Ruck and started getting on top by giving the Jets onballers first use of the ball, while at the same time running back and helping out the defence.
Hard man David Clinch started getting loose and creating some drive of half back, while Aaron Bayne and Daniel Guthridge were solid in defence. The work rate had obviously lifted and the Jets had managed to win the third quarter and reduce the half time margin by ten points.
However, in the last Blacktown were simply too good kicking 5 goals to 1.. While fighting it out till the end, the Jets simply ran out of legs. The Magic finally coming out on top winning 15.9.99 to the Jets 6.2.38.
