After the disappointment of last week, the Jets bounced back in fine style to record their second win of the season against a slightly depleted Southern Power in their Div 3 clash at Bensons Lane. At home for the second week in a row, the Jets were missing a host of stars including club Captain Pete Kyle, veteran Steven Chase and young gun Tom Roberts. With the added depth the club has they were able to cover the extensive outs with an impressive display.
In stark contrast to the previous week, the Jets came out on fire in the opening stanza, kicking 6.5 to the Power no score. With the midfield on fire and the backline impenetrable, the Jets looked better than at any other time this season.
Big Paul Webster was proving to be a handful at Full Forward, but it was the small forwards who capitalised from the good work up the ground with Grant Hoffmann kicking three first quarter goals.
The second term however was a different story. The Power started to get on top through the midfield and creating loose players across half forward. Their reward coming with the opening three goals of the term before the Jets could manage an inside fifty. By half time the Jets less fancied opposition had clawed their way back into the contest with the margin less than 5 goals.
After the long break the Jets looked refreshed with the coaching staff swinging some changes and reaffirming their strong position set up by a blistering first quarter.
With best afield Ben Thomas's coolness under pressure, Ethon Coombs' hard running and the tireless work of Aaron Lawes in the Ruck the Jets began to pull away again. Hard as nails Doug Linnett was inspiring as his continued repeat efforts were putting a halt to any Power serge and lively forwards Jake Carpenter and Michael "KIWI" Klassens running hard and bringing their teammates into the game. By the last change the Jets had put on a commanding 47 point lead.
After gaining praise at half time and three quarter time the defence stood firm in the last as they had done all day, with Aaron Bayne, Seb Goldrick and David Clinch doing a commendable job. Even though the Power managed to put on 4 goals, the Jets put 4 on themselves. Dominant big man Paul "Spida" Webster slotting his eighth goal from deep in the goal square with just a few minutes remaining putting the result beyond doubt. Then young defender, turned forward Jack Bennett bagged his second goal after the siren, leaving the final margin a comfortable 43 points.
