Welcome back. Trust you all had a great Chrissy and New Year and are refreshed and ready to tackle season 2012.
So what has been happening?
v There will be an Extra Ordinary General Meeting on Tuesday 21st February 2012 – at 6.30pm - this meeting is to facilitate the adoption of our updated constitution (as held over from the AGM back in November).
v At the same meeting we will be making the final decision re the change of name – Bears or Bombers – moving forward. Please pass the word around that this is the time for all those who wish to have a say to come along and have that say. An agenda will be forwarded closer to the date.
v All matters with Dept. of Fair Trade have been addressed – change of name of public officer and official address – in accordance with AGM guidelines.
v All Life Member nominees have been contacted re qualifying statements prior to ratification.
v Willoughby Council will be approached with the intention of erecting a banner on the corner (Pacific Highway and hospital entrance) to publicise the Club, registration, teams etc. At the same time we will be asking about permanent hording around the fence of the ground.
v Treasurer Nick Adams is at present working on the club’s budget. Once these figures are sorted, we will be able to advise registration amount for 2012.
v Now is the time for all players to be thinking about their personal sponsorship for season 2012. Player sponsorship is open to all and covers the player’s registration fees for the year. Anyone can be a player sponsor – employer, parent, neighbour, friend – ask them all. More details will be available shortly to the playing group. If anyone would like to sponsor a particular player, please email the club with your details and we will look after you.
v The committee is still in need of a secretary, and registrar.
v Football department is currently advertising for a Div. 4 coach – applications close 14th Feb.
v There are also positions vacant within the football department – each grade will require the services of – time keepers; team managers; ground managers; hydration experts and water runners. If you feel you can fill one of these positions please contact Damian Whittle.
v Discussions with Crows Nest Hotel have progressed and we are close to signing a sponsorship agreement with them. The sponsorship is goods and service based – we will be supplied with ice and beer for home games; grand final tickets, flights and accommodation to raffle; player incentive vouchers for best on ground for each home game. They will be implementing a swipe card system to track our attendance at the facility which is a big step forward for us. So that anytime we frequent the establishment the card is produced, there are also a variety of discounts being offered in conjunction with the card. More information to come once finalised.
v North Shore had 8 representatives at the U18 Joss Zone Trials in Coffs Harbour between 16 and 20 Jan – the players involved were – Mitch Cullen; Doug Hadden; Lachlan Kilpatrick; Rory Pryor; Daniel Schacher; Erol Sertbas; Jordan Weir and Hayden Washington. These trials form part of the selection process for the 2012 U18 NSW/ACT RAMS. We await the outcome with great anticipation.
v Practice matches have been scheduled for the weekends of 3 and 4 March; 10; 17 and 24 March; with preseason camp booked in for 25 Feb
v All our coaches will be involved in a 3 day coaching conference in Sydney on the weekend 18 Feb.
v Once all players are back at training we will have a better idea of team structures.
v After the first week back at training it appears that the fitness level is quite good despite the break.
v Thursday night dinners will recommence 2nd February
v U18 training and BBQ and 20/20 cricket – parents etc. all invited 12th Feb at Gore Hill
v Social events to pencil in thus far – Season Launch Friday 23rd March
v There will be a function on the bye weekend 14th April
v Ladies day has been gazetted for 2nd June
v More extensive details will be forwarded as they come to hand and included in the player’s handbook.

FROM THE COACHES
We have obviously lost some quality players and I prefer to look at what we have than dwell on what we have lost. We have enough talent in the group to have a winning season; extra wins will come from our own discipline & desire to play as a team. We have been fortunate again to find some talented players for the under 18's which is pleasing for our group. Our numbers have been on the increase with over 40 attending our recent sessions & more than 75 players have at least attended pre-season training. The more we have at training will allow us to work on specific components of our game style. At this stage we will continue to include all grades during the season, after all we are one club. To ensure we can continue to develop the playing group we will look to break training into smaller groups - either zone groups, development groups or teams.
To the boys who have been regular's during pre-season you have seen a dramatic improvement in your fitness base which should give you confidence going into the season, now we work on game style & decision making. To the guys who have had injuries in previous seasons now is the time to embark on your re-hab programs to give you the base for 2012 - don't leave it! get it done!
Look forward to seeing everyone at training in the coming weeks, we plan to have a heavy football load in March due to the slow start (one game in three weeks) to our season in April. Don't leave it to the last minute to get down to training, that's when injuries occur.
If you can't make training let me know out of respect for your teammates - 0414 237 353 (text is fine)
Regards, Jon
The Under 18s are already looking well ahead of the curve. With a number of quality new recruits to add to the large contingent of players remaining eligible from last years finals team, 2012 is beginning to look exciting for the club's future leaders. Many may get their first taste of senior footy this year and we welcome down any additional players looking to play for North Shore's 2012 Under 18 team. An Under 18 cricket and BBQ day is currently being planned for mid February.
Cheers Danny and Jamie
