North Shore Football Club held its presentation night at North Sydney Leagues Club on Friday night, in a well-attended function in which the highlights of the season were re-lived.
The club had a relatively successful year in Premier Division, making the finals despite a high turnover of players during the off season. It was one of North Shore’s first year players, Seb Paynter, who showed his class by taking out the Best and Fairest award with Teddy Strudwick and Adrian Harry completing the top three.
Division One had an up and down season, narrowly missing the finals. One of our young guns, Scott Easey, stormed home to take out the Best and Fairest with Michael Voyage coming in second and Jamie O’Dell and Jason Russell-Jones tying for third.
For the first time in its history North Shore fielded a third senior team in Division Three. In what was certainly a tough learning experience our core group of players displayed fantastic commitment under difficult circumstances. Hugh Cashmore took out the Best and Fairest, ahead of Angus Henson and Scott Youlten.
Our Under 18s made the finals but player numbers were severely tested due to a horrendous injury toll and a number playing regular senior footy. To their credit, their desire and never-say-die attitude could never be doubted. Erol Sertbas took out the Best and Fairest, with Ryan Terrey coming in second and Callum D’Souza and Doug Hadden tying for third.
The club also presented Life Memberships to Damian Whittle, Liz Fitzgerald and Adam Lord.
Overall it was a relatively successful season but the overriding consensus was that there is considerable upside in our young playing group and we should be optimistic as to what the future holds for us.
In his closing remarks, President Steve Watters thanked everyone at the club including players, coaches, officials, members, volunteers and supporters for the great work they have done to keep our club moving ahead.
