North Shore is pleased to announce that the long awaited Gore Hill redevelopment project has been initiated. This has been achieved now that the club has received approval of its grant application under the NSW government’s Community Building Partnership Grant program.
The redevelopment is planned to occur in 3 stages. Stage 1 will be the upgrade of lighting to 300 lux level. This will allow premier division night games to be played and will also assist considerably in managing the allocation of game times for our four teams, as well as assisting our co-tenant, the Willoughby Wildcats junior club in the same way. The project will kick off in the new year but we do not expect the lights to be operational until later in 2011.
Stage 2 of the redevelopment project covers a full redraining and resurfacing of the oval. The planning for this part of the project has recently commenced. There are a number of component parts that will need to be brought together over 2011 to turn this into a reality however with all fingers and toes crossed we hope to see a brand new surface come 2012. We certainly look forward to the time when we don’t have to ring up Garry Burkinshaw the night before a game to advise that Council has closed our ground.
The final stage of the redevelopment is the extension of the clubrooms. This will occur as part of Willoughby Council’s Gore Hill Precinct upgrade project. No time frame has been set for this and we are largely in the hands of council as to when this occurs.
The Gore Hill redevelopment project will considerably assist North Shore in achieving some of its strategic objectives, not the least of which will be to assist us in attracting and retaining the best quality players by providing them with a high quality facility on which to continue their football development.
Importantly, as part of the redevelopment, North Shore expects to enter into a long term lease with Willoughby Council which will guaranty us security of tenure and priority access.
