THE Nor-West Jets have been left to rely on other results going their way to qualify for this year’s AFL Sydney Division Two finals after Saturday’s clashes against Moorebank were washed out by the heavy rain throughout Sydney and the circumstances that come with that rain.
The club is grateful to the Hawkesbury Sports Council for its compassionate decision to the importance of the match by declaring Bensons Lane open, but with all other publicly operated grounds in the city closed, AFL Sydney was left with no option but the cancel the round and leave the Jets frustrated.
The abandonment leaves the race for third, fourth and fifth positions sitting as follows:
Sydney University (3rd, 40pts): To come – Penrith (1st, 44, away); Camden (10th, 4, home); Holroyd-Parramatta (2nd, 42, home).
Balmain (4th, 38): To come – Moorebank (7th, 16, home); Manly-Warringah (8th, 16, home); St George (9th, 16, away).
Auburn (5th, 36): To come – Manly-Warringah (8th, 16, home); Nor-West (6th, 28, away); Moorebank (7th, 16, away).
Nor-West (6th, 28): To come – Holroyd-Parramatta (2nd, 42, away); Auburn (5th, 36, home); Manly-Warringah (8th, 16, away).
The Jets need one of the Students, Dockers or Tigers to lose all three games, and must win all three themselves.
Nor-West’s matches against Holroyd-Parramatta this week will take place at Greystanes’ Gipps Road Oval to meet Holroyd-Parramatta, with reserves starting at 12pm and seniors at 2.10pm.
