THE Nor-West Jets returned to the winner’s list and restored some of their lost pride with a comprehensive 62-point victory over AFL Sydney Division Two cellar dwellers Camden at Bensons Lane on Saturday.
In a match rescheduled from round four due to rain, the Jets were always in control as they regained the structures that were so sadly missing against Penrith last week, winning every quarter as only inaccurate kicking restricted the final winning margin in an 11.17 83 to 3.3 21 victory.
After a wasteful first term that saw Nor-West lead by just five behinds at quarter time, the home team moved clear in the second quarter with 3.4 to no score, and it added three more in each of the third and fourth quarters to the Cats’ solitary second half major.
In fact, Camden was able to add a combined one behind against the wind in the second and final quarters, with the Jets proving more accomplished in the wet conditions caused by persistent showers throughout the match.
Andrew Travers (three goals) regained the touch that saw him be one of the club’s most important players over the past five years in just his second match back from overseas service to be best on ground, while tough utility Paul Sherwood, running defender Ben Cain, full forward Jake Berry (three goals) and midfield stars Brendan Cameron, Grant Hoffman and Jono Dowl were also impressive.
Having sealed a fourth win in five matches to remain a win outside the top five, the Jets face another huge challenge against a quality opponent when they lock horns with second-placed Balmain at Bensons Lane this Saturday, bidding to overturn a 64-point loss from round five.

FOR the second time this year, the Jets’ reserves headed off on one of the longest journeys in AFL Sydney to take on UTS, this time at Waverley Oval in Bondi Junction.
And for the second time this year, a disgraceful decision from a city-based council, this time Waverley, resulted in them turning around and making the long journey home without having played a match after the ground was closed due to weather.
Regardless of what people’s opinions of these decisions are, the fact it was made so late is a massive inconvenience to the club, and a costly one given the exhorbitant cost of tolls to get from Richmond to the city.
The reserves’ stop-start season continues with their second bye of the year this week.
