FIVE goals from tall forward Jake Berry helped the Nor-West Jets to an impressive 56-point victory over the Gosford Tigers in their opening AFL Sydney practice match at Campbelltown’s Monarch Field on Saturday.
Put to the test in soggy conditions and at times driving rain, the Jets gradually took control of the game from the outset, extending their lead at every change to win 12.8 80 to 3.6 24.
After conceding the first four goals of the match to the midway point of the second quarter, Gosford rallied with two late goals to their big full forward, but the 11-point quarter time margin was still 12 at half time.
As the rain increased in the second half, so did Nor-West’s intensity, as the Jets kicked eight goals to one after the break, with four of Berry’s majors coming in the onslaught in a performance that left coach Gary Bull feeling optimistic about the club’s prospects as it aims to back up last season’s Division Two preliminary final appearance.
This week the Jets will travel just down the road to take on arch rivals Penrith in reserves and seniors – visit www.nwjets.sydneyafl.com.au for match times and information.
