Full forward Fraser Thomson lined up and booted a long-range goal with two minutes left to lead Nor-West Jets to a tense five-point victory over UTS at Bensons Lane last Saturday.
The spearhead's third goal followed a strong mark 45 metres out, and put the Jets in front when it mattered during a see-sawing last quarter.
The lead changed four times after UTS held a five-point advantage at the last break.
The visitors almost snatched victory in the final 30 seconds with a shot from 50m out, but Jets fullback Matt Brophy took a strong grab over the pack in the goal square.
Jets coach Brendan Howden was delighted with the way his side stood up in the tight last quarter.
We showed great character under pressure," he said. "I was really pleased with the boys' efforts."
As for Thomson's kick - "it was never in doubt!"
Howden also praised the efforts of co-captain Michael Earl, who controlled the Jets' defence in the last term.
Michael was sensational and played a great captain's knock," he said.
Other standout Jets players were local junior Gerard Smits, who kicked a fantastic goal in the opening quarter, John Milolosa, Adrian Wagner, Justin Tilson and Daniel Williams.
Key forward Tom Hickey continued to impress and booted seven goals for the match.
The Jets travel to Sydney University this Saturday in an important game for the fledgling club.
"If we win, we join them (Uni) on four wins, and will sit just outside the top four," Howden said.
