NOR-West Jets held off a fast-finishing UTS to score its second win in a row by eight points at Bensons Lane last Saturday.
UTS came home with the aid of a strong wind but the Jets' defence responded with great work from David Wilson, David Ebert, John Schoenmaker and Justin Tilson.

Two sterling efforts from Wilson in the dying minutes helped the Jets hold on. He dragged down a much bigger opponent in a bone-crunching tackle before taking a telling mark in the last line of defence.

Julian Goonan's skilled kicking then set up Nick Cain for a telling goal.

With several key players unavailable, the Jets drew on their burgeoning relationship with the East Coast Eagles to play four talented youngsters from the SFL club.

Simon Kaye, Daniel Madden, Nick Robbins and Andrew King started the game on the bench but were soon moved into a rotational pattern with their new team-mates.

UTS appeared to be the stronger of the two sides early in the game, winning handsomely in the air to produce the first three goals of the game.

The Jets were forced to move last week's top goalkicker Mick Earl down back to tighten up the defence and compete in the marking contests. The move worked and the Jets rebounded to add two goals and trail marginally at the first break.

The brilliant Chris Laing provided scintillating pace off his wing and, with the aid of Gerard Smits and Rob Phillip, the Jets were able to comeback and lead well at the last change.

The Jets' reserve grade again performed well, beaten by just one point in another cliffhanger.

Final score: Nor-West Jets 12.8 (80) def UTS 9.18 (72).

Best Players: Nick Milkins, Adrian Wagner, Andrew Spring, Chris Laing, David Ebert and David Wilson.
