NOR-West Jets kicked six goals to one in the second half to beat Sydney Uni Blue and take out their first premiership on Saturday.
The Jets won by 35 points, scoring 10. 10 (70) to 4.11 (35) to win the second division competition at Kelso Oval, Panania.
The Jets only led by 12 points at half-time after kicking four goals and eight behinds.
I told the boys to keep hanging in there because every scoring opportunity counts," Jets coach Marty Whiley said.
It was a tight first half and a pretty good struggle. But we played some good footy in the second half."
He said it was a terrific comeback by the minor premiers, who lost to Sydney Uni in the major semi-final two weeks ago.
"Full credit to the boys, they really made up for it," he said. "It was a terrific win and great to be part of."
Best-on-ground honours went to the Jets' Nathan Holland, while Jets spearhead Luke Ayling, who won the competition's goal kicking award, booted a game-high four goals.
"Luke's been a good target for us all year," Whiley said.
Whiley said it would depend on numbers as to whether the Jets, who dropped back a grade this year, were reinstated in first division next season. "We're mainly made up of defence personnel, so we'll wait and see what happens."
In more good news for the club, Steven Burrows won the Armstrong Medal as the competition's best and fairest player on Monday night. Burrows polled 18 votes to win the medal by one vote.
