THE Nor-West Jets showed a recent lack of footy was no impediment to their march through the 2006 season when they destroyed the second placed UTS Black by 127 points at Bensons Lane last Saturday.
The Jets played only 60 minutes of football throughout the month of June - injury shortened victory over UTS Green on June 5 and then cooling their heels on three successive weeks with a bye, a forfeit from Macquarie University and last week's washout of the grand final replay against Sydney University Blue.
It could have gone two ways against the Blacks in the top of the table clash - the Jets could have been rusty, or they could have been champing at the bit.
It proved to be the latter as Nor-West ran up a blistering 23.11 (149) to 3.4 (22) decimation of their nearest ladder rival. They remain at the head of the competition ladder.
The Blacks held the Jets in the first term, trailing by 21 points at the opening change, but the match was over by half time after Nor-West kicked six unanswered goals for the term to take a 56-point lead into the sheds.
Playing their first matches for the season, Armstrong Medallist Steve Burrows and grand final hero, Nathan Holland, ran riot.
But perhaps the most impressive aspect of the win was regular spearhead Luke Ayling creating many chances while also snaring six goals.
The Jets return to Bensons Lane on July 15 at 12pm to meet the new second-placed team, UNSW-Eastern Suburbs Bulldogs.
