SENIORS MATCH REPORT v SOUTHERN SHARKS
THE Southern Sharks handed the Nor-West Jets a stark reminder of the step
up between Second Division and First Division when they mauled the home team
by 121 points in the Sydney AFL at Bensons Lane on Saturday.
The Sharks finished fourth last season and have recruited heavily, and the
signs weren't good for the Jets from the moment they stepped onto the ground
in slippery conditions.
When key defender Damien Cappa Shipley limped off with a hamstring injury after
just five minutes, the Sharks already had three goals on the board, and the
situation never got any better as the visitors romped to a 21.14.140 to 2.7.19 victory.
Nor-West also lost coach Peter Pekay Kyle to a knee injury before half time, and
both players are in serious doubt for the return of the local derby against
Penrith at Greygums Oval this Saturday.
The Sharks led by 32 points at the first break after kicking six goals to
one from Chris Disco Kyle in the opening quarter, and extended that to 60 with four
unanswered majors in the second term.
A rev up from Pekay and reserves coach Adrian Wombat Wagner saw the Jets come out
fired up in the third term, but they couldn't get the score on the board and
trailled by 86 points at the final change.
It was a much better effort in the final term, as the Jets refused to lie
down, with Luke Micallef booting a second goal and Casey Boft Wenselowski being
robbed of a third when the Sharks' goal umpire was talked into changing his
decision by his team's defenders.
Wenselowski was a star all day for the Jets, while Gerard Smitsy Smits and Dale Boots
Wellington looked strong and Stephen Stav Davidson and Disco worked hard all
day against the odds, but the Sharks proved far too classy, although they did
have plenty of assistance from the umpires.

RESERVES MATCH REPORT v SOUTHERN SHARKS
THE reserves fielded a powerful team against last season's semi finalists,
with senior stars Nathan Dutchy Holland and David Bocky Wilson making their first
appearances for the season along with premiership player Paul Vashy Vachalec.
But after being level at 2.1 13 five minutes into the second quarter, it
all went awry, as Dutchy and Bocky both suffered hamstring injuries in the
same passage of play after being the best two on the ground in the early going.
When they were joined on the injured list by Vashy (corked quad),
in-form centre half forward Stewart Pottsy Potts (strained quad), Dominic Domma Shipley
(calf), Mitch Pies Billingham and Daniel Prawn Beck (ribs), the Jets simply ran out of
manpower to challenge the Sharks.
The visitors edged to a 21-point advantage at half time, extended that to
34 points at the final change and cruised home to a 15.9 99 to 5.4 34 victory.
Ruckman Samuel Sammy Tanuku was outstanding for the Jets, rucking unchanged all
day and throwing himself into every contest, while Pottsy, who sustained his
injury in the first five minutes, bravely battled on until three quarter time
to kick three goals in a gutsy performance.
The father-son combination of Rocket Rod and Aaron Hank Bayne were good, as was
returning former junior Dylan Dildo Hynds.

UNDER 18'S MATCH REPORT v SOUTHERN POWER
PENRITH/Nor-West produced a much improved effort against the Southern Power
before being finally overrun by 27 points in the under 18s.
The Ramjets started impressively, kicking three unanswered goals in the
first quarter to take an 18-point advantage into quarter time, before a lapse
in concentration allowed the Power to pull the margin back to seven at the
main change.
The third quarter was an outstanding display of football as both teams ran
the ball strongly, and the teams went goal for goal, the Power kicking four
and the Jets three to make it a two-point game in favour of the Ramjets at
three quarter time.
But the effort finally took its toll, and Penrith/Nor-West ran out of the
legs in the last term as the Power kicked 5.6 to 1.1 to win 12.18.90 to 9.9.63.
Cameron Lefoe and Josh Anasis were best for the Ramjets, while Steven Albee
kicked three goals and James Moynihan two.
Leigh Sharpe, Jesse Begley, Alan McCall, Brendan Cooke and Tayt Corless
also played well.
This week the Jets travel just down the road to take on old rivals Penrith
at Greygums Oval, with the merged thirds entity kicking off the day against
Riverview from 10am.
