The Jets played host to perennial competition heavyweights the University of Technology Bats at Bensons Lane on Saturday. With UTS coming off a rare double defeat on their home turf against Manly the week before, the Jets were expecting fireworks, and the visitors didn’t disappoint.
RESERVES MATCH REPORT v UTS BATS
Reserve Grade took to the field in beautiful conditions, with the now famous ‘Hawkesbury Doctor’ gale nowhere to be seen (or felt) and met the reigning premiers head on. UTS only lost their first game in two years the week before, and perhaps took this game a bit lightly. With a stellar midfield, led by premiership player Damien Browndog Brown, returning from a long stint overseas, former player Aaron Snowy Clayden, big Stenographer in the ruck, back from senior duty, and Coach Jenkins, the Jets played with aggression and matched UTS everywhere but the scoreboard. Nick Nickstar Bennett was again in scintillating form at full-back, along with Scott Scallan Allan and Kev Kevy Conroy, keeping the Bats to only 2.7, but the Jets could only manage 2 behinds themselves.
UTS stormed out of the blocks in the second, but failed to capitalise on numerous forward opportunities, as the Jets defence held firm. Jon Schoey Schoenmaker, a regular first pick senior player, filled a spot in the two’s ans showed his class, along with returning gun forward Nathan Duttas Dutschke, playing his first game in 3 years. Duttas presented plenty of leads, and proved a handful for the Bats key backmen. The Jets went to half time full of confidence, keeping the strong UTS to only a 20 point lead at the break.
The second half was a very even affair, with both sides kicking 5 goals each, including a long range pearler to Snowy, but UTS had set up their match winning lead in the first half, running out 33 point winners.

The magoos are playing sensational footy this year, and continue to earn respect from the opposition. Look out Penrith.
SENIORS MATCH REPORT v UTS BATS
The seniors knew they had a massive job on their hands containing a rampant Bats outfit, who had lost to the premiers in Manly the week before. With four inclusions from East Coast, plus two being brought up from the twos, the boys set a plan of action.
Unfortunately, the Jets struggled to find answers to the Bats run and delivery, with UTS spearhead Andy Thain having a field day at full forward, kicking 8 on Pete Pekay Kyle by half time, on his way to 17 for the game.
Jack Sparrow Pascoe was playing his usual blockbusting game, this time in the centre, with strong support from Eagles recruits Carl Doering and Damien Newson, and regular midfielders Nick General Milkins and Stephen Stav Davidson. The backline were doing all they could, Daniel Guffo Guthridge was throwing himself into every pack he could, while East Coast boys Chris Wynne, and Matt Scholz, playing his second game in Jets colours, were playing out of their skins. UTS went to the long break down by 57 points, despite kicking the first goal of the second quarter.
The home team also kicked the first goal of the last two terms, but to no avail, as the Bats ran wild, adding 16 of their own, most off the boot of their full forward, although the Jets kicked the last three of the game to save face. Kyle went to full forward after half time, and added two of his own, to dull the pain of the bath he experienced earlier, including a right foot snap and a pack mark and goal from 50 out (yes I write these reports)

The Jets will enjoy the long weekend break before taking on Penrith in the 2nd local derby at Greygums Oval next week.
Good luck also to Andrew Shagga Travers and Casey Boft Wenselowski on selection in the final 25 man squad of the First Division Rep Team to take part in the 150 Year NSW Regional Championships at Wagga Wagga over the long break, we wish them all the best, and are sure they will represent themselves, the league and the club with distinction. Good work gents.
Best: Jack Pascoe, Chris Wynne (ECE), Daniel Guthridge, Damian Newson (ECE), Carl Doering (ECE), Stephen Davidson
