RESERVES MATCH REPORT V HOLROYD-PARRAMATTA GOANNAS
THE Jets charged home with a blistering final quarter in the reserves only to fall heartbreakingly short when the Goannas claimed a thrilling one-point win with the last kick of the game.
Nor-West produced some of its worst football of the season for the first three quarters, looking disinterested at times, trailing by 31 points when Holroyd-Parramatta kicked the first goal of the final quarter with the match seemingly in their keeping despite the best efforts of Joe Munro (19 possessions), debutant Chris Mattingley and Jesse Bray.
But the move of Chris Collins (20 touches) into the middle proved a masterstroke and with Matthew Laurence (nine for the quarter), the Jets cut loose, blasting the ball forward where Chris Kyle kicked three goals and set up two for Andrew Hahn.
Nor-West piled on six goals in 10 minutes to take an unlikely lead with five minutes to go and held on grimly, but the Goannas goaled with the last kick to steal the points back.
Kyle finished with 19 touches and four goals and Hahn three goals, while Peter Kyle, Damien Williams and ruckman Adam Newton (33 hitouts) were also high up in the best players. Reserves lost 64-63
SENIORS MATCH REPORT V HOLROYD-PARRAMATTA GOANNAS
Last week the Jets ran into a two-pronged onslaught from Holroyd-Parramatta’s Des Worrall and Brett Harland, who showed the value of efficient ball use when they led the Goannas to a 78-point win at Bensons Lane.
Worrall (11) and Harland (6) kicked 17 of the Goannas 18 goals, while in contrast, the Jets managed just five behinds up to the 10-minute mark of the third quarter – all kicked in a five-minute burst just before quarter time – despite having twice as many centre clearances as the visitors.
Holroyd-Parramatta led by 72 points early in the third quarter before Damien Brown kicked the Jets’ first goal and the home team produced a much better second half, kicking six of the next 10 goals.
Nor-West finished up winning the clearances 20-13 but were beaten 41-27 for inside 50s, which proved the difference.
Ruck rover Jack Pascoe was in sensational form, winning many of the Jets’ clearances and finishing with 25 possessions, while Paul Sherwood had 26 touches and 12 marks and Scott Allan was outstanding in the ruck.
Damien Brown (19 possessions, two goals) and Casey Wenselowski (21 and two) also enjoyed strong games, as did Stephen Davidson (20) and Nick Milkins
