RESERVES MATCH REPORT V MAC UNI WARRIORS
NOR-West was the victim of a fast start and blistering finish as Macquarie University ran out 43-point winners in the reserves match.
The Warriors jumped out of the blocks strongly to kick the first five goals of the game in quick succession, leading by 31 points before the Jets got on the board.
Despite losing ruckman Adam Newton (knee) and Leigh Sharpe (calf) early on, the Jets picked up their workrate in the second quarter, and despite not being rewarded on the scoreboard, managed to restrict the home team to just two goals as Brett Carroll, Chris Collins and David Beacroft tried to turn things around.
Trailing by 34 points at half time, the Jets continued to fight and kicked three goals to one in the third term to cut the margin to 22, and when they kicked the first goal of the last term, they looked likely to run over the top of Mac Uni.
However, the Warriors settled and kick five of the last six goals to run out comfortable winners, despite Matt Davidson finishing with three goals, and Nick Bennett and Scott Allan also enjoying strong matches. Reserves lost 92-49
SENIORS MATCH REPORT V MAC UNI WARRIORS
THE Nor-West Jets suffered possibly their worst defeat in blue and white jumpers when Macquarie University dealt out a 193-point hammering in the Sydney AFL First Division at Roger Sheeran Oval on Saturday. Jets 2 def by Warriors 195
The Jets were left severely undermanned by a large contingent of ‘RAAFies’ being called to prepare for the Pope’s arrival, the Eagles’ contingent being required to help the Campbelltown reserves field a team, a no-show and a long injury toll, leaving the unenviable task of taking on a top four team with six players doubling up from reserves and 16 seniors on the sidelines.
And the Warriors were in awesome form, jumping the Jets with 10 goals in the first quarter, a trend that continued for the rest of the day.
Despite battling hard from start to finish, Nor-West was unable to find the major opening and was held to a paltry two behinds by a well-drilled Macquarie line-up that will cause some damage if it can reproduce that form in the finals.
Casey Wenselowski was outstanding in a lost cause for the Jets, Brett Carroll did well doubling up from the twos, while Paul Sherwood, Peter Kyle and Nick Milkins worked hard in defence and Aaron Bayne and Aaron Whiles never took a backward step
