The Jets travelled for the last time this year on Saturday, heading south to Fairfax Reserve at Harrington Park to take on the Camden Cats. It was one apiece for both senior teams coming into this game, and Jets were keen to take the honours this time.
RESERVES MATCH REPORT V CAMDEN CATS
Reserve Grade were going for a clean sweep over the Cats, after two massive scores in the first two encounters, and set about replicating those scores, opening up with a six goal unanswered first term, playing some irresistible football. Senior co-captain Casey Where’s My Trolley Wenselowski and regular Senior Player Don Sleeveless Waterston were playing reserves to help out, due to lack of numbers, and turned it on in spades, feeding off the great ruckwork of Adam I Need a Bike to Match My Jacket Newton. Dayne Tangles Walker, in only his 7th game of football, was in fine form, kicking two early goals and setting up many more, while Jimmeh Thumbprint Cadet, owned his wing, with his pace and reading of the game.
Camden fired back early in the second stanza, but the great defensive work of Jamie Yet To Earn A Nickname Rowe, Scott Beevo Lahti Allan, Matt I Like Jingles Brophy and Chris Would You Like To Borrow A Nickname Rowey? Collins repelled most of the Cats forward attacks. Down forward, Matt I Told You, I’m Not Greek Davidson and Dom Trust Me, He’s Not Greek Shipley ensured the ball stayed in our 50. The Jets kicked another 5 goals to 1 to set up an unassailable 10 goal half time lead.
The third quarter was just a case of how much, as the Jets hammered home 6 more goals, including one to Brophy, and one to Wenselowski, who finished with 5 for the day, and was almost yellow carded for indecent exposure, for down-trou’ing and doing a chicken dance, at the coach’s insistence. Camden, to their credit, actually outscored the Jets 4 to 2 in the last, due to 6 players being called up for Senior duty, but the damage was done, Nor-West storming to their 7th win of the season, winning 19.7-121 to Camden 6.5-41.
Goals: Casey Wenselowski 5, Matt Davidson 4, Dane Walker 2, Don Waterston 2, Dom Shipley 2, Scott Allan, Jimmy Cadet, Mat Brophy, Adam Newton
Best Players: Dane Walker, Casey Wenselowski, Scott Allan, Mat Brophy, Jimmy Cadet, Jamie Rowe.
SENIORS MATCH REPORT V CAMDEN CATS
The Seniors took to the field confident of matching Camden’s running game on their deck, and set about righting the wrongs of the previous game. The first two quarters went goal for goal, with Captain Andrew Do You Want My Business Card Travers winning a majority of the rucks, feeding Steve Wingman Davidson and Nick Hurry Up and Finish, The Cats Are On Milkins plenty of opportunities. The defensive work of Aaron Pricecheck on Vagiclean Bayne, Daniel I Take One Handers On Request Guthridge and Peter I Write These Reports, Therefore I Get Mentioned Kyle was working a treat, as was the half back rebounding football of Paul I’m Glad To Be Back This Week Sherwood, Damian Kiss The Cook Williams and Owen Local Cult Hero & All-Round Nice Guy Butcher. The Jets trailed by 2 points at the first break and 3 at half time, through the steady kick of Eagle Chris The Other White Meat Moore, who is developing into a very dangerous small forward in this league.
The Jets couldn’t match Camden in the all important third term, with the Cats kicking 6 goals to Nor-West’s 2. East Coast’s Julian Kasbah Kasby was creative on the ball and through the midfield, linking up well from forward to back, but the Jets had plenty of work to do in the last term, staring at a 28 point deficit and consecutive wooden spoons in First Division.
The Jets came out of the blocks in the last, kicking a lifting goal, but Camden replied with one of their own, and that’s the way it stayed, with both teams kicking two each, as Camden raced to a 26 point victory, 13.12-90 to 9.10-68.
Goals: Chris Moore 4 (ECE), Andrew Travers 2, Casey Wenselowski, Julian Kasby (ECE), Don Waterston
Best Players: Andrew Travers, Aaron Bayne, Chris Moore (ECE), Julian Kasby (ECE), Paul Sherwood, Owen Butcher.
Special mention goes to BOFT, Duck, Pirate, Jimmeh, Jenko for backing up for two games in true club spirit, and also to Tangles, who made his Senior Debut after earing Best On Ground honours in Reserves earlier that day.
Also, thanks must go to Junna, for wrestling me on the main road outside the kebab shop at 3am, tearing a hole in my going out slacks. You will be billed in due course my friend.
This has been Pekay, and last one to tap dance is…..questionable.
