Official Match Report
On a sunny day for the Ashburton U12 Joey's team, the boys had a great and solid first half. The field structure and defence worked well. The sun started to take the energy out of the boys towards the end of the first half. As we had no interchange. At 10.28 Shawn kicked our first goal about three minutes into the game. Following from his last match hat-trick perhaps he was looking to break his own record. But then Lere had an opportunity to score in the 11th minute and smashed a second goal for Ashburton. Toby was solid as goal keeper in the first half. The lads were looking like wilted flowers at half time and the oranges were dished out enthusiastically by the team manager to squeeze out every bit of energy we could for the second half. it was looking to be a tough fight as East Kew had a few players for interchange and we had the sun in our eyes. Jay took over as goal keeper in the second half and was placed under some very testing fight from East Kew. As Ashburton's structure began to succumb to warm conditions, Jay stood strong only conceding 2 goals and stopping at least as many other shots. A final goal from Tommy in the second half sealed the deal for Ashburton and we held off the persistent attack from East Kew with every last ounce of energy we could muster. Special mentions to Maxy Girling who thwarted several opposition attacks with his signature speed and quick steals. Archie G for helping out to provide a full team again when a few players were not available. Lere who continues to improve with no bounds to what he can do. Sammy for his intelligent jockying frustrating the opposition. Shawn carrying injury, still a handful for the opposition, Rupert, Mr consistent - rock solid, Tommy's first game resulting in a goal. Well done lads and a big thank you to East Kew for a great game.
