ROUND 3 WRAP
A huge day at Greygums Oval on the first day of August for the Penrith Rams first home game of the season with all teams playing newly promoted club, Randwick Saints.
After some terrible weather earlier in the week, the ground was bathed in sunshine with a “soft opening” of the new facilities including canteen, function room, umpire room, first aid room and offices.
Penrith were to produce three new debutants on the day with Louis Tebay, Bailey Sims and Connor Vearing sporting the teal for the first time. Ramette Emma Kenny led the team onto the field for her 50ish game with the club
FIRST GRADE
It was the match of the round with competition leaders Randwick Saints playing the second placed Rams. Randwick had recruited very well in the off season and came out running, opening a two-goal lead in the early stages. Penrith fought back to hold a narrow two-point lead at the first break. A blast from coach Kevin Kirk worked wonders with the Rams dominating the second term scoring five straight majors to 1.1 for the visitors to go to the long break with a 25-point buffer.
The unusually hot winter day was taking a toll on both teams with the pace of the game slowing with the second half but it was all the Rams scoring another four goals to nil to record a 51 point victory and charge to the top of the ladder.
Zac Pianta was outstanding one again with Matthew Laffan, Luke Cook and 2019 Walker Medallist, Brayden Wilson recorded sparkling displays. Phil Aumann returned to the paddock after a week’s holiday to boot four, assisted by Mitch Stevens and Tommy McNamara who chimed in with doubles.
A big thanks to club umpire Dion Redding, goal umpire Tony Pianta and boundary umpires Ainslie Jones and Liam McGlynn for filling the gaps of the appointed umpires on the day
Next week it is back to Greygums with another 1 v 2 match when the Rams face up against 2019 Grand Finalists, Macquarie University

RESERVE GRADE
After a big loss last weekend against Southern Power at Sutherland, the twos were determined to return to the winners list against Randwick Saints for their first home game of the season. The Rams came out running and with a 4.2 to 1.0 opening stanza were looking sharp. It became a closer battle in the second quarter with the Rams booting the only goal in the 20 minutes. However, the second half it was all Penrith with seven goals running away from a tiring Saints outfit who could only manage 1.1 in the final 40 minutes.
Youngster Blake Kenny displayed brilliance in his second season with the club after a stellar junior career with Emu Plains/Glenmore Park Lions. Connor Vearing continued the Narrandera / Penrith successful link with an outstanding debut with Jonathon “Ever” Green and veteran premiership player, Bryce Roney providing great support. Connor Vearing fell just one goal short of Brother in Law, Phil Aumann with a treble along with Gavin Kirk who acquired a personal best three goal haul. Christian Triffitt was to equal his 2019 goal scoring record with a one goal haul. After a lean 2018 season, Christian now has set his sights on becoming the Rams leading all time goal scorer.
The victory took the team to second spot on the ladder where they play third placed Macquarie University Warriors next Saturday at Greygums Oval.

RAMETTES-DIVISION ONE
The Ramettes opened up the day’s proceedings at Greygums Oval in their clash against Randwick Saints. The Saints recruitment drive was probably the best of any Sydney AFL club both men’s and women’s, with no less than 11 2019 Premier Division players joining the club as well as highly credentialled Eastern Suburbs juniors commencing their senior careers.
It was a milestone game for Ramette Emma Kenny wo has now passed the 50-game mark in her fifth season with the club. Emma led the team onto the park bursting through the banner for the 10:15 AM start in what was to be slippery condition.
An even first quarter with some lost opportunities in the opening term with the Saints taking an 8-point lead. The second quarter saw the experienced Saints take the game by the scruff of the neck as they raced to a 27-point lead on the expansive ground.
Another good quarter by the Saints after the break saw them extend their lead to 40 and the game looking out of reach for the Ramettes. However, their pride and passion kicked in during the last 18 minutes as the dominated Randwick with a dogged display, booting 2.3 and winning the quarter.
Emma Kenny was best for the Ramettes in her milestone game, closely followed by soul twins, Paige Pirotta and Margot Vella with Justine Vella, Jamie Anyon-Smith and Nat Camilleri all putting in solid contributions. Paige was to kick her third major in as many games whilst Jessica Harvey was to boot her inaugural goal for the Ramettes.
Next week the girls come up against Macquarie University and will be looking to bounce back to a 2-2 record
Next week all teams return to Greygums where they oppose Macquarie University Warriors in what promises to be a great round as all teams sit next to each other on their respective ladders
