Hello fellow Warriors,
I wanted to reach out to everyone to introduce myself. My name is Kristian Purdie and I am the new President of the Macquarie University Australian Football Club. I’m very excited and proud to be taking up the position.
Firstly, I want to thank the outgoing President, Steven Clayton, the committee, coaches and volunteers for their hard work over the last few years. Consistently the club has overachieved compared to its resources with several teams consistently making finals and winning a few premierships.
I got involved with the club around three years ago through my wife’s participation in the clubs’ women’s program. Last year I was one of the co-coaches of the women’s Division Two side, my first experience of coaching football.
Whilst my experience in coaching football is limited, I have a wealth of business and sports management experience that will only serve to help this great club grow.
Upon reflection, 2019 was a particularly special year for the club, with the men’s Platinum Division, women’s Premier Division and the women’s Division Two teams making Grand Finals, with the Women’s Premier Division team claiming the club’s first premiership since 2013.
Looking ahead to 2020 the season, with a few new coaches, committee members and a host of new players, it feels like a fresh start for the club. Above all the club’s on-field goals remain the same: have as many of our teams as possible go deep into finals.
Given the talent in the respective playing groups, there is no reason why we can’t make it a third straight year that all of our teams make finals, but those places are earned, they’re not guaranteed.
Off-field the Committee and I will continue to make the club as welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable for its players as it ever has. To this end we will focus on generating more revenue outside of player fees. This is so we can provide both the facilities and equipment that helps players enjoy their football, as well as organise social events that bring the whole club together.
The club is also looking to strengthen its links to junior clubs in the local area, to assist male and female players development whilst also giving them a clear pathway to senior football.
The Committee and I will keep you regularly updated with what’s going on at the club, in the meantime, if you have anything you wish to ask me or discuss please don’t hesitate to reach me via email –Kristian.purdie@gmail.com, or by phone – 0478 811 191.
Kind regards,
Kristian
