A glorious winter weekend welcomed five matches played at Greygums Oval on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, the Under 19’s secured a top three spot for finals with a gritty eleven point win over Southern Power. The determined Power outfit led by a goal at the long break, but the young Rams were able to overhaul them in the last forty minutes. Luke Hyland (4) and Jack Morrison (3) were the multiple goal-scorers for Penrith whilst former Blue Mountain’s junior, Jack Bragg was awarded best on ground. Jack also backed up on Sunday in Reserve Grade where he showed he is a player of the future with an outstanding performance.
Goal Kickers: L. Hyland 4, J. Morrison 3, N. Hocking , B. White , J. Field
Best Players: J. Bragg , J. Morrison , K. Quirk , O. Glass , T. Morgan , J. Field
The Ramettes also secured a finals spot with a dominant fifty four point win over the Manly Giants in the battle of the West. It was another solid effort from the ladies and after a shaky start to the season, are putting consistency in the games as they head towards an elimination final at Blacktown in two weeks’ time. Kate Easthope and Jessie Burnham shared the kicking honours with three apiece whilst Kayla badger was adjudged best on ground.

The final match on Saturday saw first grade take on the Manly Giants. Two quick goals in the opening term saw the Rams in a handy position, but Manly responded and after kicking two goals in the final three minutes of the first quarter, saw the visitors lead by a straight kick at the siren. A four goal to one second quarter allowed the Rams some breathing space as they went to the sheds with an eleven point lead in the all-important match. Manly narrowed the lead back to two points as the final 22 minutes loomed and Penrith tried to hang on desperately, but a late major to Manly that trickled over the line allowed the Giants to take the match by five points. Phil Aumann, Dan McDonald and Matt Laffan all contributed two goals whilst Tom McNamara won the best on ground award.
Goal Kickers: P. Aumann 2, D. Mcdonald 2, M. Laffan 2, L. Smith , B. Mayer , P. Pope
Best Players: T. McNamara , M. Laffan , J. Denton , M. Denton , J. Vearing , B. Mayer
On Sunday, it was the Sydney University students who headed west. The first game saw an entertaining Division Five match. Sydney Uni led by ten at the first break, but it was one way traffic after that, the Rams taking the match by fifty one points to see the team virtually assure themselves of a top three finals spot. Despite a 26 year gap in ages, both Kevin Kirk and Dylan Nelson both contributed four goals, whilst Dylan took out the OD’s Award.

Best Players: D. Nelson , T. Corless , J. Hyland , D. Fysh , C. Triffitt , D. Hartney
The final match of the weekend it was the Students to reverse the result of the previous match. The rams were in range of a win over the second placed students in quarters one and three, but played below their best to go down by nineteen points. Jake Shelley, Mitch Stevens and Blake Roberts all kicked two, whilst Matt Payne and Brayden Wilson were amongst the best for the home team. Payne also shared the “big hit” honour with third grade player, Kerry Fraser for the “hit of the day”

This Saturday sees all five teams again competing. Reserve Grade head to Kanebridge to play East Coast, Third Grade to Mahoney Park where they play Balmain in the final home and away match for the year, whilst Under 19’s, Women’s and First Grade head in for a big day at picturesque Rosedale Oval to play Moorebank on their past players day. Penrith have four teams assured of a finals berth, but first grade have a torrid final two matches and need both to assure themselves of a spot in final football.
The Rams wold like to again thank our major partners, Slater + Gordon and OD’s for their continued support.
