A mixed weekend last week with four games at four venues over two days for a 2-2 record.
The Ramettes headed to Mona Park in a frosty and foggy Saturday for the 10 AM match, with some important outs and Kylie Rix making her debut. Their opponents, Auburn Giants, have been the huge improver this year and currently sit on top of the ladder with just one defeat to their name. The first half saw some good football by both teams with Auburn taking a two goal lead into the long break, but eventually got the upper hand to record a twenty point win. Kayla Badger was outstanding in the ruck along with Renee Tomkins and Jasmine Payne whilst Jessie Burnham kept on top of the Women’s leading goalscorer with a double, Ivanka Olchowik kicking the other. The girls hang on to fifth spot on the ladder.
Meanwhile, at 10:30, Third Grade kicked off at Pioneers Park against Randwick Saints in the Division Five match. The Rams were inaccurate in the opening two terms, holding a nine point buffer at the long break, but gradually wore down their bigger opponents to come away with a convincing sixty eight point win to jump to second on the ladder. Coach Kev “Captain” Kirk booted four, Ben Robinson chimed in with three whilst the great man, Rick Ooms, landed a double. Jamie Edwards (OD’s Dinner Award) and Richard Lowe were amongst the best for the Rams.
First Grade were closer to home at Blacktown up against the Magic at 2:10 PM and with only 21 players on hand, A good match was on the cards after the Rams had scored an earlier win over Blacktown at Greygums Oval. In a see-sawing battle, it was the magic taking the lead in the first term, but good plays by the Rams saw them take a four point buffer at the half time break. However, Penrith could not go on with the job, failing by seventeen points at the end of the day, keeping them in a precarious fifth spot on the ladder. Blake Roberts was the only multiple goal scorer with two, whilst Jacob Vearing was sensational, taking the Slater + Gordon cash, ahead of Matty Laffan and Max McNamara
On Sunday, Reserve Grade headed to Henson Park to take Balmain in Division Three. The third term set up the win for the Rams, keeping their opponents scoreless, whilst adding twenty points to their own tally, to eventually record a thirty point victory, keeping third spot on the ladder safe. Mitch Stevens had the kicking boots on with five majors, whilst Liam Murphy added a further three. Jake Clark was outstanding, marking up on the big #51 unit from the Tigers.
Footy returns to Greygums Oval in a huge weekend. On Saturday, Penrith welcome Blacktown in the women’s at 10:00 M, Holroyd-Parramatta in the 19’s at midday and Randwick Saints in the first grade clash at 2:10 PM.
On Sunday, two UTS Bats teams head west with Thirds playing at 10 AM and reserves at Midday. Both UTS teams head their respective competitions so a big and vocal crowd is encouraged to come down on both days to support the Rams.
