Penrith Rams were formed in 1981, the same year that New Zealand Band Split Enz released their big hit “History Never Repeats”. Two weeks ago, Penrith Rams created club history by winning five from five on a weekend. Just a week later, they again achieved that feat making it ten wins in eight days.
The Under 19’s kicked off the weekend on Friday Night with a solid win against a tough Moorebank Magpies outfit at BISP with a fourteen point win in a game that was probably decided with a great second quarter by the Rams. It was the colt’s fourth successive win that sees them firmly entrenched in third spot on the BLK Under 19’s Division two ladder.
On Saturday, two matches were played at Greygums Oval with Third Grade securing a thirty three point win over Holroyd-Parramatta. Captain Tayt Corless celebrated his 150th game with the Rams in a tight battle, keeping the team in second spot on the ladder. The second game was the First Grade match, previously scheduled for Spotless Stadium but transferred to Greygums Oval midweek, after some heavy mid-week rainfall. A Spotless size crowd saw the Rams under fire in the first term to a determined Moorebank outfit, but gradually getting the upper hand to record a twenty seven point win and their spot in the first five confirmed. Goals were shared around with five individual players all booting a double.
On Sunday, it was the Ramettes kicking off the day on a soggy Greygums Oval when they played Moorebank. It proved to be hard work in the early stages with the goal umpires not reaching for a flag after fifteen minutes, but the points came thick and fast afterwards which saw the girls being the sharpest shooters of all teams on the weekend with 13.5 to record an impressive sixty nine point win with Sydney AFL leading goalkicker, Jessie Burnham, booting five. The following game put pressure on the reserves to be able to again complete the clean sweep when they played UNSW/ES Bulldogs on a track that was feeling the pinch from the previous three games. In a tight match that saw both teams trading goals for much of the eighty eight minutes. It was the Rams four goal third quarter the main difference in their twenty four point win to complete the weekend on a high.
Congratulations go to two Ramettes, Nikki “Killer” Perrett, being named in Sydney’s Top Ten Women players by Sydney AFL during the week and Emma Nolen, who was named Rising Star for Week Seven. A fantastic achievement by both ladies.
With the Ramettes having the bye this Saturday, another five wins is out of the equation. On Saturday, First Grade travel to Gore Hill to take on North Shore Bombers at 12:30 PM. The Bombers secured an easy twenty seven point win early in May against their Rams in a game that saw many of their team promoted to Premier Division the following week, but they have been disappointing mainly since then, with only a shock one point win against Blacktown against their name. Penrith are expected to field a strong squad and will certainly looking to make it three on the trot.
The other three games will be hosted by Penrith at Greygums with Under 19’s playing Campbelltown, Reserves taking on a strong, in form Pennant Hills and Thirds again playing Parramatta Goannas.
Penrith wish to thank our wonderful sponsors, O’Donoghues Irish Pub, Slater + Gordon, Greater West Physiotherapy, Freestyle and Mad Mex for their support.
