Under 19s Match Report - Round 13 vs Holroyd Blacktown (Courtesy Rick Allen)
Still struggling for numbers our game against bottom of the ladder Holroyd Parramatta was a long way from a sure thing with only seventeen players taking to the field with two others late – but on their way.
We commenced our game playing 18 a side with us playing one short. We played one of the bravest quarters of footy I have been associated with 7 scoring shots to 3 to be down by only 11 points despite being one player down for the majority of the first quarter. It was only inaccuracy in very windy conditions that had cost us the lead. The Papageorgiou brothers had arrived to the rescue like the 7th Cavalry just before the quarter time break to even up the on field numbers.
By half time we had hit the lead by a point and never looked back from there. But it was our 8 goals to nil final term against the breeze that really made me sit up and take notice. It was dominant fast moving football with forward/ ruckman Angus Ehrl the catalyst dominating the centre bounces.
Our onballers took full advantage, driving the ball relentlessly into our forwards who finished off brilliantly scoring 8. 2 for the quarter.
Blue Mountains under 17 forward sensation Luke Hyland kicked 4 goals and classy rover / forward Dylan Nelson finished with 3 to be the main goal scorers with a host of others chipping in with a goal each to their name. There were 11 individual goal scorers in total.
Pat Pope was the stand out player in the difficult windy conditions showing his usual skill and poise under pressure. Jacob Field was simply relentless in his pursuit and attack on the football andLuke Hyland and Dylan Nelson were as mentioned the dominant forwards both showing great strength over the ball and a blistering turn of speed to outwit their opponents. ST Clair under 17 hard nut Joel Walsh in only his second Under 19 appearance was a dominant force on the wing and Immannuel Papageorgiou lead the back line to perfection with his ability to read the play and hardness at the ball.
Others to impress were Adrian Boelhouwer, Chis Nolan, Angus Ehrl and Nat Brew.
