Under 18s (Div 2)
The Under 18s hopefully showed signs of things to come when they went within a whisker of knocking off a side which had accounted for them quite comfortably earlier in the season. After an even beginning, the game opened up in Moorebank's favour, with the visitors leading comfortably at three-quarter time in a low scoring match. But the Rams then came to life, storming home to sniff a memorable win, only to fade late in the piece. But a wonderful show of what they are capable of none the less.
Goal Kickers: K. Quirk 2, J. Eckford , J. Field , A. Ehrl , E. Claxton , A. Leech
Best Players: M. McDonagh, J. Field, L. Veigel, J. Monks, A. Leech, J. Eckford
Reserve Grade (Div 3)
Reserve Grade also had a score to settle from earlier in the season. Coming up against the Jets' best side, the Rams really only stayed in the game in the opening half due to their own accuracy in front of goal and their opponents' inaccuracy. Whilst the Jets still couldnt kick straight in the second half, they gradually drew away to record a comfortable win.
Goal Kickers: N. Collimore 2, T. Corless , J. Field , T. Beutler , L. Jerzyna
Best Players: C. Triffitt, M. Cummins, K. Churchill, J. Field, E. Papageorgiou, J. Eckford
Third Grade (Div 5)
Third Grade was the only side to travel this weekend, making the long trip to the other side of the city to always sunny and welcoming Pioneers Park. They had nearly pipped Randwick earlier in the season (missing out by a solitary point) and were looking to surpass that effort on this occasion. Stray kicking for goal in the first half cost the Rams dearly, and then the home side click a gear in the second half, booting 12 goals to 6, to register in the end what was a very easy 66 point win.
Goal Kickers: M. Brown 3, D. Fysh 3, J. Edwards 2, S. Lockhart , J. Hyland
Best Players: D. Fysh, M. Pope, C. Knight, S. Lockhart, J. Masters, M. Brown
Ladies (Div 2)
The Ramettes provided the highlight of the weekend with a stirring and memorable win over second placed Southern Power. The girls opened well and held an eight point lead after having the better of the opening term. They extended this by a minor score to be nine points ahead at the main break, in a dour, low-scoring battle. Warning signs emerged on resumption of play, with the Power (as expected) hitting back and doing so hard. The Ramettes were lucky that the Power's frequent forays forward did not prove more fruitful, but their strong defence could also take credit for continually thwarting the visitors. Whilst the Power still had the better of the final term, the Ramettes rebounded and went forward to kick two vital goals. With less than a minute to play, the Power had a shot on goal which bounced in the goal square and - thankfully - went through for a behind. The Ramettes had recorded the biggest win of their short existence by a solitary point. Well done girls!
Goal Kickers: J. Vella 2, J. Burnham , J. Brown
Best Players: M. Brydon, J. Vella, N. Camilleri, A. Deighton, M. Hunter, K. Easthope
Senior Grade (Div 1)
The final game of the day saw Senior Grade take on flag favourites Southern Power. This was always going to be a big test for the Rams. The visitors jumped the Rams early in a warning sign for the remainder of the game. However, whilst the Power maintained the advantage and never really looked in danger of losing, the dogged and determined Penrith side stuck at its task and provided an even contest from then on.
Goal Kickers: L. Murphy 4, T. Cummins 2, M. Denton 2, C. Withers
Best Players: L. Murphy, J. Shephard, T. Cummins, M. Denton, A. Sharp, T. Noble
