The 2013 season starts on April 6 for the three senior mens teams with firsts and reserves whiolst the following day the thirds open their campaign. Under 18's have the bye and the Ramettes season begins the following week.
It is important to note the following:
- Team selections are made on the Thursday night and posted on this website on Friday morning. All players are reminded to fill out the "Training Attendance Sheets" on Tuesday and Thursday aloong with their availability. Those unable to do this are required to contact their coach with their availability status in order to be selected.
- Players must be fully financial, or have made payment arrangements in order to be selected.
- Players are required at the ground 1 hour prior to the start of a match. Teamsheets have to be completed and given to umpires/ground managers prior to the game, so if you are running late, make sure you contact your coach/manager or risk your place in the side being taken by an emergency.
- Club attire is compulsory at all games. Polo Shirt, Black Trousers and Black Shoes.
- The general "rule of thumb" is that players are to access dressing sheds after half time of the previous match being played and required to have all their gear ofut at half time of the game you play in to enable the next team to access these areas. Dressing sheds are to be kept tidy and cleaned before you vacate them (drink bottles, starpping etc to be binned)
- Liquor is not allowed to be bought to any grounds (including Greygums" under licensing laws. Liquor is available for sale at the canteens, which also supports the club with important revenue.
- Respect all other teams, players and officials at all time and abide by the "Code of Conduct"
Match review - Round 1
First Grade kick off the season under coach Craig Sharp when they take on Sydney Hills Eagles at 12:00 PM at Bruce Purser Reserve, Rouse Hill. Despite the loss of Dale Chivas (defence force),Kavera Carr and Mark Woodford (relocating), the side has added depth tis season with the return of Tim Cummins and Jimmy Denton along with new recruits Josh Shephard (Sydney Hills) Tom McNamara (Sydney Hills), Michael Denton (Sydney Hills) and Chris Lucas (Wests).
The Rams got the better of the Eagles in both rounds in 2012, with a 'come from behind" win in round 8 at Greygums after being three goals down at half time to snatch a 6 point win . In the return match at Bruce Purser in round 14, Sharp who had taken over coaching the team with Phil McGuinness leaving the club, got off to a shaky start but dominated the last three quarters to record a comprehensive 32 point win, with Ben Robinson booting four majors and taking out man of the match.
It will certainly be a tough assignment, as it is believed many of the Eagles will be playing down from Premier Divison this year.
Tip: Penrith by 11
Reserve Grade travel to Mahoney Park at Marrickville to take on Sydney University in their 12:30 clash. After their Div 4 premiership last year, the team under the tutalege of Mick Bottrill and Nathan White now find the Penrith reserve Grade in the same division as the first grade side was in 2010.
It will be a tough assignment against the students, who have recruited very well this year but some newcomers to the side have shown a lot of promise on the training track and should field a very competitive team in the opening rounds
Tip: Penrith by 5
The final match of the weekend will see the Third Grade side take on Uni NSW/ES Bulldogs on Sunday at Greygums. Coaches John Rix and Jason Makin have worked hard in pre-season both on and off the field which will set the scene for a succesful year for a team in just their second year. With a few unavailable players in the higher grade, it will also be a tough ask but they are set to spring a surprise and get the season off to a good start.
Tip: Penrith by 8
