The Penrith Rams fell to their second straight defeat as they went down to Holroyd-Parramatta by 46 points in their make-up game at Gipps Rd. Looking to bounce back from a crushing defeat at ladder leaders Manly the previous week and hold their place in the five, Penrith kicked with the breeze in the first term. Unfortunately for the Rams they were unable to convert their opportunities as they trailed by three points at quarter time. The Goannas made better use of the conditions in the second quarter, wresting control of the contest to take a 17 point half time lead. Try as they might, the Rams were unable to make a dent into the home side’s advantage in the third term, and they faced an uphill battle to peg them back in the final 22 minutes. With the match up for grabs, it was Holroyd-Parramatta who finished the stronger, four unanswered goals blowing out the final margin.
James Yates continued his improvement in his first year of football to be Penrith’s best, whilst Ben Robinson underlined his recent return to form. Jake Pianta and Tom Noble also did well down back.
The U/18’s travelled to take on Sydney Uni, and to the boys credit they were extremely competitive during the second and third terms, but unfortunately let the scoreboard blow out in the final quarter. U/16’s player Brad Camilleri continues to show his talent as he put in another fine display, and he was well supported by Sam Hunt and Harry Doyle. Harrison Cheesman booted the only goal for the Rams.
This week sees the seniors in a must-win game as they look to get their season back on track against Pennant Hills on Sunday at Greygums Oval. The U/18’s also face the Demons at home, whilst the reserves travel to take on top of the table UTS on Saturday, with Division Five away to Sydney Uni and the Ramettes looking for their first win of the season against UTS Shamrocks.
