The Penrith Rams finished the home and away season in Division 1 with a 37 point defeat at the hands of second placed Southern Power at Gwawley Oval. After four straight wins to confirm their spot in the finals, the Rams were keen to show that they could be more than nuisance value come September; however they started poorly, with the Power notching five unanswered first quarter goals to take a 34 point lead to the first change.
Penrith regrouped in the second term, but it was the home side which increased its lead to 44 points at half-time. To the Rams' credit, they bounced back strongly after half-time to kick four goals without reply, and suddenly the contest was up for grabs with the deficit back to 19 points at the final change. The Power were able to steady though when it mattered to come away with the points. Coach Sharp was left lamenting a poor start, but took plenty of confidence out of the final three quarters.
Jay Edwards again showed his quality down back to be Penrith's best, with Adam Sharp, Kavera Carr and Dave Bradley also contributing strongly. Under 18s player Pat Pope continues to show that he will be a player of the future as he topped off another fine display with 3 goals.

The Reserves opened their finals campaign with a 22 point loss to second placed UTS in the Qualifying Final at Gipps Road. Penrith started strongly, however the Bats soon got on top with only poor kicking for goal keeping the Rams in the contest. With half-time approaching, two late Penrith goals saw them back within striking distance and they were able to maintain the momentum into the third term as they hit the front. UTS though were able to wrest back the initiative, and a goal after the three-quarter time siren was a portent of things to come as the Bats ran away to take victory.
Brayden Wilson, Mark Woodford and Mitch Reinhard were among Penrith's best, with first year player Scott Randall continuing his excellent form in the backline. Mark Jackson, Blake Roberts and Tayt Corless each kicked two goals.
