Third Grade start off a big day at Greygums Oval on Saturday in the Div 5 clash against premiership frontrunner, Sydney University. The students opened their account in their first match against Saints AFC with a struggling 8 point win, despite having five less scoring shots. The following week they demolished the hapless Holroyd-Parramatta in a 161 point win before continuing their unbeaten run with a 50 point buffer over Mac Uni. The Rams are looking for their first win, but with many new players on the roster are still finding their feet. The home ground advantage will makes this an interesting contest. Players are reminded to get to the ground by 7:20 AM and assist in setting up the ground.
The Under 18's host Illawarra in the 10:30 match. Despite not registering a win in their three matches so far, recent recruits have added strength and class to the team and they will be a great show this week. Illawarra scored an upset win in their first match against Sydney Uni and have follwed up that effort with two creditable losses to St George and Sydney Hills Eagles.
Reserve Grade will be looking to return to the winners stall after two succesive losses to Uni NSW and last weeks 12 point loss to Gosford at Adcock Park. They started sluggishly in both those games and will need to get a better start against Manly in the Div 4 clash. Manly are on a high after three wins on the trot, last week against North Shore and previous wins against Southern Power and Nor-West. Greygums should suit the Rams and should win the match provided they put their ability and talent on the ground on the day. The match starts at 12:30 PM.
The final game at 2:30 sees the toughest task to date for the Rams in the Div 1 clash against Manly Wolves. Last years premiers remain undefeated this year and humilated Sydney Hills Eagles last week at Weldon Oval with a 156 point thrashing. Prior to that, they fought out a gutsy 10 point win over finals certainties and 2011 Grand Finalists, Southern Power. Their two other games saw a 21 point win over Holroyd-Parramatta and a 70 point victory over Macquarie Uni. The Rams will be buoyed by two recent wins against Wests last week and Uni of NSW the previous game after their 1 point loss to Mac Uni in the opener of the season.
Over at Mahoney Park, the Ramettes take on Mac Uni in the 1 PM fixture. A few unavailabilities have weakened the side but recent recruits should be able to fill the void in a match that will provide one of the teams their first of the season. The girls have been showing great commitment and dedication at training and match day and it will reap rewards. Last week, the put a scare into Uni NSW Stingrays in the opening term before the visitors experience took control. Their first match against Auburn showed they are quick learners and they face the Warriors who have had a tough run with their early matches against strong teams. They fell by 4 goals in Round 1 to Illawarra and followed with a 6 goal loss to the in-form Western Wolves before not being able to match Newtown Breakers last week. A great battle is expected between the two sides.
Players and supporters from all teams are encouraged to return to the Red Cow on Saturday evening for a meal and a few drinks to recount the day's proceeding.
